| #1warpigletApr 23, 2015 8:14:34 | So in another thread I asked for advice about a tempest cleric. Just wondered how others felt about their melee potential. I don't want to outclass a fighter but stand in for one (almost) at times. How viable is this? Highest score placed in str half Orc with 18 str) will use maul or Glaive and take great weapon master vs. raise wisdom at lvl4. Eventually can use spiritual weapon with bonus action, swing maul with attack action with occasional thunderwave with his reaction...well 2-3 times a day, but still. In short with good use of the action economy, tempest looks like a cool basis for a fighting priest. Opinions, experiences, suggestions? I will go single class only this time... |

That said, you can still hit someone and hurt them. |

Don't discount Warcaster for this as your Feat just to get advantage on the concentration check. You can do pretty good damage all around sitting in the middle of a bunch of opponents being able to keep Spiritual Guardians up. |

Extra points for Guidance and other Cleric Cantrips/Spells getting re-fluffed into Ki powers. |

18 6 16 10 15 12
Stats after racial adjustment. Def going for a slugger...I reliaze he won't be a fighter but hey, fighters gotta have something! |

I think Resilient (Constitution) and Warcaster should be highly valued so Bless and such never drop. That combination will get really potent once you can wade into the enemies with Spirit Guardians up. You become a walking patch of difficult terrain so the bad guys can't get past you to your party easily, and you'll do damage without even trying. Stack that up with your weapon swings and Spiritual Weapon, and you might feel a bit more Fighter-ish. |
