The Best Adventures of Recent Years

Over the last few years I have been running various adventures for multiple systems. Some of the better ones I will briefly look at below and how easy the7y would be to convert to 5E.

B5: Horror on the Hill

Edition: BECMI

Format: Dungeon Hack with a little bit of exploration

I liked this adventure and I do not think it would be do hard to convert to 5E. However it does contain a dragon and a lot of Hobgoblins so maybe add 2 levels to the party and run it as a 3rd level adventure instead of a 1st level adventure. One will also have to reduce the amount of magical items found as well although there is nothing earth shatteirng in it just a lot of +1 weapons and a Dragonbane sword IIRC. PDF is $5 on RPGnow.com.

Kingmaker

Edition:Pathfinder Adventure Path

Format: Sandbox

Kingmaker is a very sandbox type adventure where you get to build a realm and rule it. The sub system is more or less compatable with any RPG in regards to building the kingdom up and you can ignore it if you just want to kill stuff. There is a nice mixture of NPCs and sub plots and side quests as well. I do not htink this would be to hard to convert to 5E. A bandit is a bandit in both ediitons, the Staglord could be a gladiator or something.

The Night Below

Edition: 2E AD&D

Format: Sandbox then dungeon hack.

I recently ran part one of this adventure more or less straight form the book in 5E and it worked. I let the PCs start at level 2 instead of level 1 however. I only used the 1st part of the adventure where the PCs get to explore the county of Haranshire. I found this very easy to onvert to 5E rules. From what I understand this boxed set can be pricey these days.

Assault on Blacktooth RIdge

Edition: Castles and Crusades

Format: Sandbox

This adventure in some ways is similar to T1 the village of Hommlet and it is the 1st one in a series of linmked adventures. This one is quite easy to run with 5E as it is more or less a d20 based version of AD&D adventures and you can just sub in Goblins. Once agian though you may have to add a level or 2 to the PCs and/or reduce the numbers encountered fopr some of the encounters. The PDF is dirt cheap on RPGnow.com.

Red Hand of Doom is a great adventure and easy to convert to 5e. I am running that next.

Palace of the Silver Princess. By far the adventure I've run the most. Ravenloft is also fantastic.

Frandor's Keep for Hackmaster is an excellent sandbox, in my opinion.

There's a keep to clear, a goblin dungeon, a big city to use as a base, and a whole lot of wilderness to explore.  If I run a 5E game, I'm extremly likely to convert and use it.

I haven't had a chance to play or run it yet, but 4e's Madness at Gardmore Abbey looks like a nice sandbox adventure. I've been wanting to run it for one of my 5e groups. It's also got the added bonus of using the Deck of Many Things in a creative way (and it even comes with a physical deck of cards - with the same set of illustrations displayed in the 5e DMG).

I'd love to get my hands on the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and convert it.  It was one of my favorites.

I liked Skull & Shackles for PF. Sandbox setting, pirate adventures, some good ideas, & plenty of NPCS for me to play as the DM. That said I think there's plenty of stuff I'd flesh out more/differently should I run this again (like at the local shop).

Really any PF adventure. But yes, Kingmaker stands head and shoulders above most everything else. Rise of the Runelords is a close second.

D&D's adventures... don't really do it for me. Well, I like Temple of Elemental Evil, but that's it.

Souls for Smugglers Shiv was a highly enjoyable survival sandbox for levels 1-4. Should work even better in 5th ed given not having magic items isn't such a big deal.
