What is considered a universally accepted rule, style, addition to this iteration of the game? Lets find out.

Objective: Single out the highest regarded Fifth Edition elements.

Rules

Your Initial Post

  1. Post one to three elements of the game you enjoy (or that you feel is beneficial) for this edition
  2. Always place your additions at the bottom of the list and sign them with your Handle/Username (or a recognizable abbreviated version of your handle). Signing your additions serves a purpose in Rule #3
  3. (Optional) Next, move any one (single) List Item as many lines down as you posted additions to the list. Example: If you made two additions to the list you may now move the top (or any Item above yours) Item in the List down to the third slot (2 lines). Do not split the moves between multiple items on the list. You do not have to use all allotted moves
  4. Do not use [ Reply ] or [ Quote ]. Please, only, copy and paste the list from the last reply to a new Response (at the bottom of the page) to make your additions and make line moves of a List Item
  5. Clean the list up of any blank lines left after moving an Item

Your Additional Posts

  • You may reply again with 0 to 2 additions to the list every 7 posts after your first (initial) reply or once every 24 hours (whichever comes first). If you do not add to the list (0 List Item additions) you may still move a single Item down one line otherwise follow Rule #3 to know how many lines you may move one Item down the list (skipping Rule #1). Again, this rule only applies after your Initial additions to the list in your first reply.

There may never be #1 on this list for long but a rolling survey, over time, may give us some expectations of what this edition is all about if the community provides discretionary action (elimination by deduction).

The list can literally contain any element about the game from “Fast paced” to “Bounded Accuracy” to “Saving Throw System.” Do not include defamatory statements, such as “Not 4th edition” or “I hate THAC0 was included,” so if THAC0 does make the list show your dissatisfaction by moving it down the list.

This is not to get a tally of how many people like something or not with this edition so please view this exercise of what survives as the greatest elements of the game. Feel free to add commentary to your own additions, but not within the list itself.

The list items you provide can be from any source (printed, or not) and from any viewpoint or stance you take with other list items.

The List (do not copy this header) - What you like about 5th Edition

  • Spell Master (Wizard Class feature) – KtWF

Edit (7/10): Hindsight, I will admit this can, and will, become tedious and difficult to use. It may of worked much better as an application. I make these kinds of posts, every so often, while(coding) if(beer before noon). So "Living Survey" popped in my head and I rolled with it. Anyways, if it continues great... otherwise it's going to be painful by page two. ~laughs~

Only being allowed to move things down (and never up) does make it a bit tougher for anything posted later in the thread.

I did say, "later in the thread", with the rather logical asumption that this list is going to grow substantially. So things entered much later will have a tough time waiting for everything above it to be drag below them. That's all.

I find it amusing how many people don't know what bounded accuracy is but think the game has it because it was a marketing buzzword.

http://wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20120604

"The basic premise behind the bounded accuracy system is simple: we make no assumptions on the DM's side of the game that the player's attack and spell accuracy, or their defenses, increase as a result of gaining levels. Instead, we represent the difference in characters of various levels primarily through their hit points, the amount of damage they deal, and the various new abilities they have gained. Characters can fight tougher monsters not because they can finally hit them, but because their damage is sufficient to take a significant chunk out of the monster's hit points; likewise, the character can now stand up to a few hits from that monster without being killed easily, thanks to the character's increased hit points. Furthermore, gaining levels grants the characters new capabilities, which go much farther toward making your character feel different than simple numerical increases.

Now, note that I said that we make no assumptions on the DM's side of the game about increased accuracy and defenses. This does not mean that the players do not gain bonuses to accuracy and defenses. It does mean, however, that we do not need to make sure that characters advance on a set schedule, and we can let each class advance at its own appropriate pace. Thus, wizards don't have to gain a +10 bonus to weapon attack rolls just for reaching a higher level in order to keep participating; if wizards never gain an accuracy bonus, they can still contribute just fine to the ongoing play experience.

This extends beyond simple attacks and damage. We also make the same assumptions about character ability modifiers and skill bonuses. Thus, our expected DCs do not scale automatically with level, and instead a DC is left to represent the fixed value of the difficulty of some task, not the difficulty of the task relative to level."

The game does have bounded accuracy. Monsters have an AC due to the armor or no armor they wear (hobs have higher due to chainmail, undead have lower due to no armor and only Dex bonus). Hit points have been beefed up along with damage for monsters which is a key design of bounded accuracy.

Ok ok are you going to provide to the list, or not? People always have to make sure everyone else is in line with how someone else thinks. Either provide to the list or ignore this thread and let it drop off the page. Thanks.
