| #1ElfcrusherAug 08, 2014 15:52:03 | After skimming my shiny new PHB, here are my top five choices of race/class/subclass, and whatever I got for concept.
Drow Warlock (The Fiend, Pact of the Chain) - Agreed to the Pact to resolve the debt of a mad but beloved sibling; not the most cooperative arrangement.
Human Monk (Way of the Four Elements) - Master Chef; traveling the world and beyond in search of lost recipes
Human Wizard (Necromancer) - Not much concept here other than raising dead...
Half-elven or Human Paladin (Oath of Devotion) - Classic AD&D goody two shoes defender
Half-orc Barbarian (Berserker) - concept is, um, "mayhem with a big weapon"
What are yours?

| #2tuffn00giesAug 08, 2014 15:54:51 | Dunno what I want to play yet, but I like your master chef idea. |
| #3NautilusAug 08, 2014 15:58:27 | Warlock, sorcerer, bard, paladin(avenger), and wizard(illusionist).
Will sort out background & race once I get that pesky PHB.
Oh, and death cleric, once it's possible. Definitely. |

|
| #5GladiusLegisAug 08, 2014 16:16:08 | Half-Elf or Human Paladin (Vengeance) - Badass arbiter of divine justice with a mean streak.
Human Rogue (Assassin) - For the first time since 1e, the Assassin actually looks like it does what it's supposed to do, numbers-wise even, so it'll be a lot of fun. Unsure if I'd go pure and get to Death Strike at Lv. 17, or mix in 5 Fighter (Battle Master) levels for an extra attack and some maneuvers. The former would be really fun for potentially one-shotting some mid- to high-CR enemies, the latter would be a near-perfect representation of Altair or Ezio from Assassin's Creed.
Human Fighter (Battle Master) - Going full Warlord with this one, taking all the maneuvers that help allies. Has a decent Charisma score for Inspiring Leader and the bonus temp HPs to Rally.
Half-Elf Bard (either one) - Because I love Bards and the 5e Bard may be the best one yet. I'm already coming up with so many ways to roleplay a 17th-level Bard's use of Power Word Kill. :D
Human Monk (Way of Shadow) - Because ninjas, that's why. |
| #6setiAug 08, 2014 16:16:46 | I haven't given too much thought to it yet...But, when I get the PHB I want to at least make and play or NPC a:
I like the chef idea as well. Are you going to make a chef backgroud up from scratch, or just do 'artisan'? |
| #7ElfcrusherAug 08, 2014 16:27:55 |
|
| #8AshrymAug 08, 2014 17:16:55 |
Lore bard, Assassin rogue, Battlemaster fighter, Land circle druid, Fey tome warlock. |
| #9Danny_MontannyAug 08, 2014 18:56:15 | Say hello to my Schizophrenic Assassin!
Human variant multiclassed Assassin / GOO PotB Warlock Stats: Str: 10 Con: 12 Dex: 16 Int: 8 Wis: 13 Cha: 16 Feat: Actor Background: Charlatan: I put on new identities like clothes. Skills: Athletics, Deception (Expertise), Insight, Perception, Pursuasion, Sleight of Hand (Expertise), and Stealth Starting Rogue, then 3 levels in Warlock to get Devil's Sight and Mask of Many Faces along with the pact blade, then it's back to Rogue from there on out. Awakened Mind will be so much fun! For spells I was thinking Friends, Hex, Invisibility, Misty Step, Protection from Good and Evil, and True Strike. Skulker and Observant look very tempting too. You can still be viable with your base stats until level 15, right?
The voices in my head made me do it! |
| #10philipnichollsAug 08, 2014 19:09:55 |
Human Fighter battlemaster
or
Human Fighter Eldritch Knight
I'm hoping these are similar to the 4th edition Warlord & Swordmage respectively
Dragonborn Paladin
Dwarf Cleric of Lathander |
| #11ZardnaarAug 08, 2014 19:37:32 | I may actually get to play but in the short term I am limited to Basic D&D if not the pregenerated characters in the starter set. My choices as such.
The halfling rogue from the starter set. Dual wielding fighter (basic) Archer fighter (starter set) Dwarven wizard (basic)
Assuming I had the PH a thief or assassin Rogue I suppose.

| #12TheLyonsAug 08, 2014 19:42:14 | I had a chef idea but it's going to be an elven conjurer wizard. Elves with their long lives can get obsessed with goals such as that for very long periods of time. Conjuration insures he can conjure what he needs and his cantrips should help too I find it very interesting to see the chef idea but as an elemental monk. For you mind elaborating? |
| #13iserithAug 08, 2014 19:43:48 | Please feel free to post your your cool character builds and back stories over here in the Pre-Generated Character Repository! |

| #17CVBAug 09, 2014 13:18:30 | As I'm part of the local D&D Encounters chapter, these are all meant to be played in the Hoard of The Dragon Queen adventure season.
Uthgardt Barbarian Fighter (Fighter with Outlander background) Gorehowl of the Thunderbeast tribe. His father had been exiled from the High Forest for crimes that none would speak of. He and his father had been called back with several other exiles and they were sent to stop an incursion of Thay controlled Orcs and Ogres. It was a suicide mission, and although both sides anhilliated each other, he survived, even to the point of slaying the chief himself! Taking the dead chief's name as his own, the newly named Gorehowl returned to tell his former tribe of the success. Now he wanders the lands, a masterless man seeking fame, fortune and perhaps a little redemption for his family. (Alignment CG)
Gnome Sorceress, Wild Magic (Sorceress, Entertainer background) Lillenda' was found by a wandering circus while she was a babe. The Kobold seer had a vision of a pair of Red Cap leaving a child in a Fae mushroom circle and abandoning her. On a whim, the Ringleader followed the lizard lasses tale and found the tiny babe, unharmed and happy. Since then, she trained as a dancer and her power blossomed, although as much as she wanted to be an illusionist as was her mentor, she's of a more destructive bent. After nearly burning down the circus again, she decided to explore the world. And maybe learn some control before coming back home. (Alignment NG)
Dwarven Rogue (Rogue with Urchin Background) Kathra Baldurk was one of the dispossessed Dwarves that roamed the various underground mountain homes of the Dwarves. With no clan of her own, she made a living stealing and robbing others. Very independant, she never joined any gangs, or guilds, but did 'work' for them as needed. Growing up around various poor made her realize that helping others, helps herself and grew to hate those who bully others to get what they want, no matter what the race or species. Recently, she snuck onto a caravan to free some hidden human slaves, but ended up being captured and was to be sold herself! But ever the resourceful one, she escaped, freed the others and left to see the world. (Alignment CG)
Half-Drow Ranger (Ranger with Soldier Background) Solumn 'Deepshaft' Kendril was the son of a human Knight in Silver and a Drow commoner refugee. His home life in Silverymoon was peaceful, loving and calm, although he preferred exploring the outskirts on his own. His family encouraged his talents in archery and hunting, to the point of letting him enroll into the army as a woodland scout. Recently, his wanderlust has taken a hold from him, and after getting a special dispensation to explore the various Faerun lands on his own. He's a proud member of Silverymoon, trying to live to the tenants set fourth by Alustriel and the various rulers after her, although his natural curiousity tends to get him in trouble more often than not. (Alignment NG) |
| #18masterfat78Aug 09, 2014 13:23:27 | A gnome arcanetrickster that maybe splashes some illusionist in there. A shadow monk(havent decided race yet. a dwarf fighter cleric or maybe pally/cleric for the spells and then use martial adept for the fighter flavor going for a healer/tank like concept, some sort of warlock, maybe try to make a warlord style as much as possible. |
| #19frothsofAug 09, 2014 15:35:55 | For me its human open hand monk (already playing one in a campaign), human draconic sorcerer (didnt expect to love it but i freaking looooooove it), straight up human fighter critfisher (champion build dual wielder), human enchanter mage, and hybrid human battlemaster/assassin. In that order. |
| #20ChaosmancerAug 10, 2014 13:51:34 | I've got a Tiefling Dragon Sorcerer who is a jeweler and a human Ranger who I'm using Spy.
I'll admit the ranger has been inspired by John Flannagan's Ranger's Apprentice series that I just finished reading. They're quite good for YA, though there are soem stumbles. Essentially Ranger's are the elite forces of the king, acting as spies and police officers of the realm. Ridiculous Archers, super stealthy, and generally all around awesome.
Sadly, as a DM I'll probably not get a chance to play either of them any time soon, but that just gives me time to dream and write up more backstory |
| #21CVBAug 10, 2014 15:09:30 | Added: Mountain Dwarf Barbarian (Barbarian Outlander) : Guldrek Skullbreaker was never like the other Dwarves, too wild, too uncontrolled. And his family despaired at making him fit into the family smithing business. Even sending him off to be a miner didn't work, so when he ran away at 14, no one actually took much issue of it. But Gurdek had a good heart, and he all he ever wanted was to help people, any people. But when he nearly hurt his fellows on several occasions, he decided that he needed more control or leave. And so, leave he did. And since then, he's wandered the various lands around Faerun, helping those he can and learning to direct his immense temper to those who deserve it. (Alignment: CG) |
| #22LeugrenAug 10, 2014 16:27:11 | I will be playing a Wood Elf Rogue[Assassin] with expertise in Stealth and Perception. He will pick up the Skulker and Alert feats quite early, and round these out with the Sharpshooter and Mobile feats at higher levels. Such a character should have awesome alpha strike capablities in all but the most brightly lit, non-natural settings, often getting off two longbow attacks with advantage/sneak damage/assassinate damage, and then running off up to 90 feet (or 45 feet and hiding) before his opponents can even react. In natural settings with obscuring features, or in complete darkness, or in dimly lit areas against foes who lack darkvision, he should be able to attack with advantage consistently almost every round. In a word: the ultimate D&D scout/sniper.
|
| #23ZardnaarAug 10, 2014 16:31:44 | My 1st PC is going to be Basic D&D only. Leaning heavily towards a halfling dual wielding fighter using short swords name Melvin Erasmus Roger Copperpants or MERC for short. We're starting at level 1 and I want to see if I can abuse the halfling reroll thing as it looks like fun and I hate rolling 1's. |
| #24TheMattyLeeAug 10, 2014 17:09:59 | We've been playing using the Next playtest document the last few months. Just updated/retrained my Bard 5/Mage 3 to a Bard 5/Warlock 3 last night. Love the character, so I'm not really looking to do anything else at the moment. |
| #25The_White_SorcererAug 10, 2014 17:14:52 | WILD mage Bard (preferably in organized play, Harpers represent!) Noble battlemaster Sword-wielding monk Snow (high) elf druid named Holly Mistletoe (never going to actually play this, just wanted you to know my shame) |
| #26mestewart3Aug 10, 2014 17:40:13 | Altektos: Dragonborn Paladin (homebrew gladiator background). Altektos was raised a slave in the Tiefling (desert dwelling, persian inspired culture in this setting. No demonic heratige) city of Bualhaad. Due to his size, strength and fierce temperment Altektos was choosen at a young age to become a gladiator. Altektos found great success in the ring eventually earning his freedom through repeated victories. Without any skills or knowledge of how to function in the world outside of the arena, Altektos lost his way in life. On the night he decided to sell himself back into the arena, Altektos had a vision, showing him that his destiny lay in the service of Bahamut as a holy warrior. Altektos now serves as a sword of Bahamut, though the savage rage that he inherited along with his crimson red scales constantly tests his resolve to be a force for good.
Now if I could just get a chance to actuall play :P |
| #27TheLyonsAug 10, 2014 19:07:34 | Mountain dwarf abjurer. He is one of the rare dwarves irresistibly drawn to wizardry. His upbringing gave him proficiency in medium armor and he takes medium armor mastery as well as shield mastery feats, as he's still drawn to weapons and armor as well. Adventuring is necessary for him as little magical knowledge exists in his mountain home and some of the other dwarves fear or despise his knowledge of magic. I felt a dwarf would be more drawn to abjuration given that they actually like magic enchanted weapons and armor, and the feats really go with the armored dwarf caster. |
| #28malisteenAug 10, 2014 19:27:17 | Dark Elf Shadow Monk Human Dark-Knight themed Eldritch Knight (replacing evocation with necromancy or illusion if DM would permit) Warlock, particularly if DM would work with me on a homebrew undead themed patron with some sort of access to Animate Dead forest gnome arcane trickster focused on shadow magic |
| #29draegnAug 11, 2014 7:06:59 | Robber Knight ... Bandit/Cavalier
Thief
Alchemist/Assassin
Evil Paladin
Courtesan
A mix to cover rural/wilderness, city, and dungeon adventures. |
| #30ArtifactAug 11, 2014 7:27:49 | At first, I was gonna play a halfling wizard. Never played a halfling before; never been my thing. Wasn't really feeling it though.
Then the name 'Azruel' popped in my head the other night. Now I wanna try a tiefling wizard. That's a tiefling name, yeah
Which is odd because I played a tiefling warlord in 4e and now this. I might be starting a thing
= = =
Oh, and here's an idea inspired by the noble backround. Imagine an exotic race like say, genasi. A noble has a trio of retainers (as an alternative to the 'position of priviledge' feature). I'm imagining these are all genasi (just like the PC) but are commoners rather than nobles. Neat way to spotlight how *special* PCs really are I think, even among their own kind. |
| #31Arawn76Aug 11, 2014 8:04:36 |
Don’t have a campaign to base these ideas around but….
Human/Charlatan Wizard/Enchanter. Think Maverick played by James Garner, a con with a heart of gold whose schemes are mostly foiled by his own conscience.
Human/Noble Cleric/Tempest. Celtic like culture, second son following a storm god – not original but I like the idea.
Dragonborn/Soldier Paladin/Oath of Devotion. Veteran of ‘The War’ to end all wars this battle hardened sarge maintained his mens hope and faith by being a shining light in the darkness etc etc
Dwarf/Outlander Barbarian/Berserker. Outlandish rune tattooed/scarred dwarf speaking a foreign tongue. Mysterious past, always looking over his shoulder.
Human/Criminal Soldier/Assassin. Waylander the Slayer…..

| #32h347h50Aug 11, 2014 10:41:40 | "Viking" (Fighter 17/Barbarian3) Max out dex & con wear a shield and no armor. Pick up shield master as a human at first level. Possible resilience feat for for dex save prof. Advantage on dex saves, ability to take no damage on succesful dex saves. Resistance to all types of damage other than melee while in a rage. Parry and reposite for main maneuvers. Seems fun and very "active midigation" style.
"Skyrim style character....." (Eldritch knight fighter19/cleric1) With medium armor master(stealth skill from human trait),martial adept, shield master, and warcaster feats.
"Bounty hunter" (Beast master ranger 17/Assassin Rogue3) Pick up martial adept and sharp shooter. Archer fighting style. Use pet to grant sneak attack dice. Use maneuvers while attacking to help command pet. Crit would be 2d8+4d6+2d6 from bow, sneak attack, and manuver die. Use exceptional training to make it dodge to become a secondary party tank. Then burn down what ever it is tanking. Variant would be picking up a 2 level fighter dip as well for action surge.
Great weapon, battle master fighter 20. Knight background and have a squire, herald, and a horse groom.
"DPR tank" (Battle master fighter17/assassin rogue 3) Medium armor master and stealth skill(expertised in as well), work with party rogue for sneak attack ambush tanking/flanking. Rapier and shield. Duelist style.

| #33Hortensio_peaceAug 11, 2014 9:54:19 | Human Cleric "Preist"-- I like the idea of a pascifist healer: a Cleric in robes. It would seriously limit the classes potential, but would be fun to roleplay!
Dwarf Ronin-- In the PHB it talks a little about the importance of the clan in dwarven culture, and it made me think about what a dwarf would come to if his clan was destroyed. Would he try to rebuild it? Would he seek revenge? Would he drift around the world, nameless and purposeless? The original thing that came to my mind was a somber dwarf "samuri" with a warhammer instead of a katana. |
| #34gaminggirlAug 11, 2014 10:09:12 | 1. Drow Warlock/Bard probably with Fae Patron...to somehow make a Sword Dancer. 2. Half Elf Valor Bard/Wild Sorcerer because she's just so curious about stuff... 3. High Elf Eldritch Knight/Wizard most any school would work but Necromancy. 4. Human or some flavor of Half Elf/Elf Paladin Oath of Ancients or Vengence (probably Wood Elf just to see what the result would be).
5. I would be happy playing just playing a single classed Wild Sorcerer, Bard of either College, any Wizard other then Necromancer or Book/Blade Pact Warlock, Eldritch Knight just see what can be done concept wise with them. |
