So, the playtest materials and the basic rules imply that Dragonlance is back on the menu. Yay, cheer, huzzah!
Do you think we'll see a full blown campaing setting this edition?
What do you want from such a product?
I'm hoping we will and that it won't be too period specific (I'd like to be able to easily play any era). I also really, really hope they put a 5e conversion of the original DL modules out (preferrably on paper, but PDF is acceptable... and more likely).

One thing to keep in mind here is that a Dragonlance theme is a dominating theme. And this clashes with the idea of one one system to cover everything. Now dominating themes can do well, and a theme can always be deluted by side quests and such, and one can ask if striving for a more general game was a good idea in the first place, but you are still facing the question of how anything affects The War, and these side quests are just side quests. So if a player does not like the theme, he is unlikely to like the game either.
The future of Dragonlance is fairly uncertain. The comments from the D&D team can be taken with a grain of salt as similar things have been said in the past about DL being alive, yet it has been four years since the last product. Personally, I think the best course of action is to reboot to just after the Legends trilogy. Given that time travel is a thing in the setting, it might be possible to retcon the setting in a similar way that Star Trek was retconned recently.
Dragonlance is clearly being brought to the forefront again, with frequent mentions in Basic D&D and, based on some of the previews, the PHB as well. The Kender is going to be in the DM, and I would not be surprised if we saw the Minotaur somewhere too. Who knows, there might even be Draconians in the Monster Manual. Also, converting stuff like the Starter Set adventure is trivially easy. Change Orcs to Hobgoblins (Same CR and XP) and change any Drow to High Elves. I put the area and town the adventure takes place in southern Solamnia(an idea from Dragonlance author Cam Banks), works quite well. Just change out some of the city names (Starport can be substituted for Neverwinter). I imagine the Tyranny of Dragons adventures will likely be just as easy.

One of the few good things about 4e was that divorcing the Con bonus per level from hp meant that Raistlin could fnally have a Con score that clearly reflected his poor health instead of the remarkably average 10 that he had in 1e. I hope they don't lose their bottle on that point.

Hell, I think that even if someone had read Chronicles, it'd still be a ton of fun to play through one of the most epic published adventures of all time!
As for any other time period - I'd be pretty "meh" about it. I have a real soft spot of DL, but the War of the Lance is the only era that really hooks me.

Lost faith in DL but a reboot or retcon could do it for me. War of the Lance or a prequal era game would be fine, setting went to poop after the WotL.

-Tracey Hickman is reported to have stated that he had a "Reboot" idea that he had pitched to WOTC and was waiting to see if they were interested, he reportedly mentioned it on his blog. The source I heard it from was IMO extremely reliable, it was on the Nexus that he told me, and I've known him for years. The blog post though, seems to be missing now...
-I know I saw a similiar sentiment, on the Dragonlance Legacy facebook page IIRC, which I can also no longer find.
-Cam Banks and Margaret Weiss have both expressed interest in returning to DL.
-ENWorld reported about a year ago that WOTC was reaching out to the setting's major authors, right about the time TH was talking about having an idea for DL.
-WOTC was going to bring DL back in 4th edition, but per the author they were talking to, the sudden change in 4th edition's customer base caused WOTC to drop the idea.
I *really* don't think it is a question of "if", I think it is a question of "When". I would predict it ends up targetted at next year Gen-con-ish time.
if they will anounce anything about dragonlance it would be gencon.

I can't even sell the 3.0 edition Campaign Setting I bought, couldn't even read the whole thing either. The time period was of no interest to me. However, the three 3.5 ediiton War of the Lance modules were pretty good. They allowed a bit of player flexibility that the DM didn't have to provide the grunt work for. The original modules were some of the first D&D adventures I ever played, so I'd naturally like to see them remade. All that said, I'd actually rather have Ravenloft too.

But a reboot about the novels... it is, or it was, the most sold fantasy saga after Lord of the Rings.
My suggestion is to create a new timeline because somes fans might miss the original canon.
