How are you guys doing? I have being out for a while, keeping my subscription for the 4E CB alone. I notice they halted the magazines just before 5E was out, but they didn't get back to it up untill now. I was wondering, what is the current status of the Magazines? I was very fond Dragon and Dungeon

The only info on the magazines at this point is that WotC has not outright said they will never return in any form, nor have they said anything to even hint at how or when the magazines will return.

I think there may have been a comment along the lines of looking at the possibilities but nothing to announce yet made in some interview somewhere, but that doesn't really mean anything.

They have said that they definitely won't be coming back in print form, though.

I would subscribe to it in pdf or even ipad magazine format, it would be a shame if Dragon magazine was not part of 5e history. I now wish I would have saved my old Dragon magazines...

I have a complete run of Dragon from 200 to 359 (2e and 3e eras).  I bought all those off the newstand, issue after issue, month after month, for years.  Never missed a single issue and only had one mailed subscription in that time.  I've picked up a handful of issues here and there from before #200.  I do have the Dragon Archive CD though (very nice).

I'm disappointed to hear the mags won't see print again.  Digital D&D Insider wasn't nearly as much fun (although I have all those as well).  There were some on-going issues with the customer side of the service (didn't get addressed til late in the game).  The articles themselves were fine (even if a bit routine at times --lots of quickie 'power pack' articles ).

So, I'm not nearly as excited for digital Dragon/Dungeon (again).  Still, they add to my enoyment of D&D, so (format aside) I can't complain too much .

I'd prefer a print version, but would certainly opt for electronic if that were the only format available.  I'd hope it'd be optimized for iPad/tablet viewing and maybe offer some cool features that woudl keep it exciting and make regret less the loss of the tactile feel of print copies.

Here's what Mike Mearls said in his Reddit AMA early last month: "We're exploring options for the magazines right now. Nothing to announce yet, but we know they're an important part of D&D's history.  That said, the magazine business is in rough shape. Subscriptions to them were dropping heavily in their last years in print, and that was six years ago. You can expect anything we do will be delivered digitally."

There have been no physical mags since 2007 and the online ones were a bad joke. I have some of them up through 2011 and I have not bothered reaidng a few of them they were that bad.

Print media does not have a bright future.

Also, I think you're exagerating the 4e mags' quality, Zardnaar. I've found quite a bit of good stuff in there, especially in Dungeon. They have much, much better adventures than the ones they actually sold in stores.

Some options for the future:

NFC miniatures: like Spyro: skylanders, Disney Infinity and nintendo amiboo.

PDFs: Maybe you could buy it with sponsorpay. In the store of the videogame sims 3 watching spots simpoints are gifted.

Dragon compedium: books, no magazines, for printed format.

I think offering them as a magazine subscription on amazon would be nice.   Also offering a direct pdf version is fine as well.   Not saying be mutually exclusive.
