#2 transcendantviewer Mar 31, 2015 15:44:12	I would say yes, simply because the tiefling had to have grown it somehow and having it torn off isn't doing anything to prevent it from growing in again. It'll just be slow and they'll have to get used to a distinct lack of weight on that side. That or break off the other one and sand them both down flat and let them grow back together.

#5 BRJN Mar 31, 2015 16:39:37	Are the horns permanent, like a gazelle's, or seasonal, like a deer's?  In the latter case, just wait until next spring.   In either case, I would have them naturally growing all the time ... perhaps slowly when they are 'mature'. Once in a while, the other PCs accidentally stumble in on him filing the rough edges or the shedding scales off his horns.

#9 magiwildcard Apr 01, 2015 13:00:11	As with many things, if it isn't listed in the rule books, it's up to you. And if it was in the rulebooks, it would still be up to you. I seem to recall ealier editions saying that they stop growing once the tiefling reaches maturity, but that doesn't mean it has to be so. Like the others said, you might say that something he's always had to do is scrap off some of the older, chipped material from the higher portions, so while having it broken probably hurt to no end, it will eventually grow back. He might choose to file it down permanently too keep that cool Demon Hunter symbol asymmetry going.  Sounds like a positive thing for the table, even it hurt the character a bit in the short run.
#10 DMStevenH Apr 02, 2015 12:02:14	I'd say it depends on the player. If they seem bothered by it and they're the kind to get attached to their character and take stuff personally then it grows back. If they're bothered by it but they're pretty resiliant then it doesn't grow back and side quest to track down a scroll of regeneration could be a fun diversion. If they don't care then what the hell, it doesn't grow back and the character has a cool battle wound.

#12 Kazadvorn Apr 03, 2015 7:20:51	Nothing in the fluff for Tieflings ever suggested that they have deciduous antlers - as opposed to true horns. (Antlers - which deer have are very different from horns). So we'd have to go with Tieflings having true horns as opposed to antlers. True horns grow from a 'root' in the skull. They never stop growing throughout the lifetime of creature, but the rate of growth will be affected by factors like age, nutrition, genetic pre-dispostion, etc. The true horn has a fleshy core, sort of like bone marrow, surrounded by the hard outer covering. The horn grows from the base and the base will expand in diameter as the horn continues to grow.   So, if a Tiefling's horn is broken, it will grow back... as long as the base, the root if you will, in the skull is intact. If the horn breaks as a point where the fleshy core is present, it will bleed like heck, and hurt like the dickens. If the horn is broken at a point above the area of the fleshy core (now that I think about it, I think the core is called the 'quick'.) there will be no pain or bleeding.   But a broken horn will never be the same as the unbroken one. Unless the Tiefling takes some sort of measure like filing back the unbroken horn, the horns will remain uneven for life.
