| #1ProducerPaulOct 08, 2014 18:22:16 | I notice that the Monster Manual doesn't have any information about what kind of treasure creatures might have. I realize not all creatures will have it, but humanoid types, and dragons and such, will. Is there going to be more information in the DMG about this sort of thing? |

| #4MistwellOct 08, 2014 19:03:46 | I have a treasure generator based on the last playtest documents here. |
| #5ZardnaarOct 08, 2014 19:36:02 | I normally roll a 1d6 or 2d6 for ranom treasure and pick the goins based on the monster type. A kobold might have 2d6 copper pieces, Orcs silver or gold etc. An Ogre might have 1d6X100gp a small Dragon 1d6X1000gp that sort of thing.

| #6WuzzardOct 08, 2014 19:52:34 | All creatures have as much treasure as I want them to have. Still, its good to know that dragons like to collect shiny metal, and ogres keep bags with stale cheese. :-) |

| #8AkeishaOct 08, 2014 21:24:26 | I tend to go with whatever feels right, and if running a pre-made adventure, I am not afraid to modify it as I see fit or feel needs to be done. |
| #9setiOct 09, 2014 1:37:11 | I prefer no treasure info in the MM, myself. It seems that 5e assumes no magic items, or at least PC-usable ones, are in the hands of any creature. Unless the DM puts them there, of course.
Random charts for treasure are fun, but belong in the DMG. I like using that approach sometimes, and I also like giving my PC's what they need or want other times. For example, if there's a deep pit, or cliff, I don't want the adventure to grind to a halt because PC's didn't buy pitons and ropes or write that down on their character sheets. So...There's likely some pitons and ropes nearby, or on the way to the location that needs them. Same with food/drinkable water. I don't want to end an adventure because everyone ran out of rations and emptied their waterskins. It's also logical to assume that a goblin camp would have edible food and potable water, too. (Pro-tip: Cook to well done and boil any food or drink found in a goblin camp
Treasure can be anywhere, too. Not just in the hands of enemies. (LOL, like the gold coins that pop out of things in video games that have no pockets.)
The published adventures all seem to have treasures placed. But, that's (of course) also DM mutable. |
| #10ProducerPaulOct 09, 2014 6:51:42 | Thanks for all the responses. I was pretty much planning to go it myself, but you know, coming from old 1E and 2E stuff, it was kind of a shock to not have the "treasure type" label in the stat blocks :-)
I can definitely make it up, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
As for the people tired of questions about treasure, my apologies. I'm new to the forums, and a search on the word "treasure" produced no results, so I wasn't aware any questions had been asked. |
| #11Huntsman57Oct 09, 2014 8:11:36 | Another missing piece of info is "# encountered."
While of course that number can be whatever the DM wants, I feel as though it would be helpful to know what is typical. |

| #19BoldItalicOct 10, 2014 14:40:28 | Tweets from Greg Bilsland indicate that the treasure tables are going to be in the DMG. They didn't put them in the MM because DMs might want to customise them. |
