What do you think are some of the problems with this spell, if any? |
| #2h347h50Jul 20, 2014 13:03:01 | Perhaps it will be in the PHB!
I have never had a problem with the spell.
I guess you should say if you actually have a problem with it so it can be discussed. |

| #4MechaPilotJul 20, 2014 13:10:11 | I don't see any reason why True Strike wouldn't be in the PHB. I think the real question is how will it work? Advantage on the attack? An automatic hit? Both are really fine as first level spells as long as they just apply to one attack. |
| #5AH_schulertaJul 20, 2014 13:29:28 | I would thinnk automatic hit would be appropriate. Advantage isn't enough to warrant spending a 1st level spell on it IMO. |
| #6setiJul 20, 2014 13:35:14 | I think there should be a martial option in the PHB called 'true strike'.
It'd be like magic missile for melee and/or ranged attackers (fighters, rogues, rangers, monks, palladins, etc.) to use once per short or long rest. No caster should get it. It'd use an action, have no attack roll, and do weapon + ability mod damage.
I will not call it fighter DoaM. |
| #7LawolfJul 20, 2014 15:05:22 | Cast as a bonus action, +10 to your next weapon attack.
Might be too powerful with great weapon master though... |
| #8Xeviat-DMJul 20, 2014 15:31:30 | Considering it would be a souped up "Aid Another", I don't have a problem with it as long as it takes a round. In the first game I ran, the Sorcerer/Fighter loved his True Strike/Power Attack combo; it made him feel like an iaijutsu dualist. |
| #9demon_idolJul 20, 2014 18:10:27 | It would be interesting if it was cast as an action, could target other creatures, and negated any disadvantage you had on your next attack *and* gave you advantage on that attack. So, you could use it to make one attack with a longbow at long range against someone with blur, and have advantage on that one attack roll. |
| #10ShiroikenJul 20, 2014 20:17:45 | To keep within Bounded Accuracy, it would be hard to be a flat bonus. I could see is in one of two ways:
Level 1 Swift: Gain Advantage on the next weapon attack you make this round. If it hits, it is a Critical Hit.
Level 1: Gain Advantage on all weapon attacks for 1 Minute. |

| #13QmarkJul 20, 2014 23:02:33 | Why not something very, very simple: "Your next attack will hit. Don't bother rolling for it." |

| #16melloredJul 21, 2014 8:03:11 | True Strike: Cast Time: Bonus Action Durration: 8 hours, or until it is used. If your next weapon attack misses, turn it into a hit. If your next weapon attack hits, turn it into a crit. At-Higher Level: This last for 1 more attack for each level you have. A level 3 slot gives the bonus to your next 3 attacks.
With a maul and +5 Str... You either turn a miss into a hit (12 auto-damage). Or a hit into a crit (7 auto-damage).
Compaired to magic missile (10.5 auto-damage, ranged) it's got room to stack with magic and/or buffed weapons. And wizards aren't likely to carry mauls with +5 Str.
The only issue would be rogues. But that's why it's a self cast. |
