I've found it interesting to tie in a moral dilemma based on the characters motive to be doing the adventure, but also grants clues. For example, say they have the 'hired hands' hook where their bosses were abducted. Well you can tell that they just saw a shady guy who was around during that time...BUT *snip*, some kid just cut their purse and ran off with, say, 5 gold. Which do they chase after? Do they care more about finding out more about their lost bosses or getting the five gold back?
Either way the shady guy will give up some info on a haunted fortress, or the kid will because he was sent by some bad guys to get info (but got greedy)
Also in my game, they gain inspiration for either choice. |

For, example one of my players took the hook that said Gar Shatterkeel sunk a ship that the PC was on so he is seeking revenge. He has tracked Gar to the Sumber Hills and is asking questions to investigate. Another PC has a strange map that has drawn him to the region in search of an elemental node. Another PC is suspicious of the leader of the Feathergale Society so he wants to investigate. I like the huge list of hook options.
And it is interesting to create moral dilemmas for the right groups. If the players pick the right combination of hooks, I bet moral dilemmas will crop up naturally. I especially like the one that has the PC try to get the Feathergale guard to leave and return to her home. Couple that with the one that says the PC witnessed or heard news of sky riders raiding surrounding villages, and there could be some interesting rp dynamics in the party. |
