Awesome picture of the Umber Hulk. Definitely looking forward to putting a party up against one of these. Question though: if you're averting your eyes, are you for all intents and purposes attacking an invisible creature?

I belive so. You attack with disadvantage due to not being able to see it, but it is not hidden so you do not have to guess a space.

Basic Rules, P73-

"When you attack a target that you can’t see, you have

disadvantage on the attack roll. This is true whether
you’re guessing the target’s location or you’re targeting
a creature you can hear but not see."

My gnome battlemaster Wedge Wendleton laughs at charisma saves.

Not sure how not looking into it's eyes somehow means you can't see the huge monster, and that is for the portion of the party in front of it, for the ones behind it makes even less sense.

Go go danger sensitive sunglasses and safety towel over the head.

Liking the look of the Monster Manual! The little scrap-of-paper looking bit in the top-right is actually a really nice touch. Also enjoying the bits of fluff on the monsters.

Not to be confused with it's lesser cousin, the Unter Hulk.

Yeah, there really ought to be a monster called the Uber Hulk.

And comes back and haunts your dreams as a Umbra Hulk.

Men really should be immune.  Long practice of not looking at a woman's eyes.

Why the variation with claw attacks, some are called "claw", some are called "claws", some monsters attack twice with their claws, others attack once.

I'm only interested in things that can survive a trip through hell, bring on the big guns lol. This guy does seem like a lot of fun and a total pain at lower levels.

I want to run a game where the players fight Umber Hulk Hogan.

Whatcha gonna do, when a DC 15 Charisma save runs wild... on... you...

Atomic Leg Drop. Melee Weapon Attack. +8 to hit, reach 5 feet, 1 creature. Hit: 4d8+5 damage, and both the Umber Hulk Hogan and the target are knocked prone.

I like the artwork!  The eyes really are confusing!  I think it's the combination of those intense, beady little ones and the large, sleepy looking ones--assuming those are even eyes too.

Also really liking the continuation of the text design/formatting with the bolded keywords, just like in the PHB class write-ups.

Way to go umber---wait, what was I talking about?

I'm not a big fan of the confusion mechanic.  I don't mind the Cha save, or the "do nothing" on a 1-4 result of the d8.  It's the 5-8 results that bug me.  I'll probably change 5-6 and 7-8 to something like this at my table: on a result of 5-8 the confused creature can choose to act as normal, but the direction of movement, the target of attacks, the potions drunk, the spells cast, and so on are determined randomly.

I find this more interesting as a confused character could try to drink a healing potion because she is wounded and end up accidentally drinking an invisibility or polymorph potion.

I do like the notion that people often don't recall encounters with umber hulks, and it might be interesting if an umber hulk's confusion opened up the possibility of being suceptible to a kind of hypnotic suggestion.
