1) At 3rd level take Pact of the Blade and choose Whip.
2) At 4th level spend a Feat on Weapon Master and take Whip as one of your weapons.
3) Multiclass into something with all Martial Weapons.
Any other options? |

I'd just let a player trade another weapon proficiency for proficiency with the whip. Actually, I allow players to take one melee and one ranged weapon prof of their choice anyway that way no player has to spend systemic resources like feats or character levels to get the weapon that is appropriate to their character theme. |
