This is just an observation for anyone with creative power withion Wizards that might by chance see this. We need more spells that encance weapons like Keen or flaming. I have a fighter/mage and it would be great if I can get more damange using a spell. That would go a long way to increasing the flavor of the build.

I think we should have more spells like this since magic items are few and far between.

Oh, Don't make them concentration please (although I know that won't happen)

There are already spells for this purpose:

  • Magic Weapon: +1 damage,
  • Elemental Weapon: +1 damage and 1d4 of chosen damage type,
  • Shillelagh: increased damage, magical, alternate Ability Mod for attack/damage.

You can adjust the fluff of these spells pretty easily, to fit your concept needs.

Magic Weapon can represent the Keen attribute or being chilled/heated/etc. (without actually changing damage type).

Elemental Weapon does precisely what you're asking for.

Shillelagh enables a higher attack/damage modifier (when your spellcasting ability has a higher modifier than your Strength) and makes the weapon magical.

All that, and WotC's D&D team never reads the forums. (If you're up for homebrew, see my signature, as that's exactly what the artificer does.)

That's three spells, one of which is druid locked.

As for the OP I gotta say I do not want them to expand the wizard spell list just to give the blade wizards more options part of the problem 3e had was casters ever expanding spell lists that let them do anything and everything. I think the ranger, and the EK (specifically the EK not wizards in general), need more spells that enhance weapon attacks, and not just damage boosters I wanna swing  amace and have everybody in a general direction go flying.

I hate being on a phone, since editing is a problem... But Rampant is describing one of the Smite spells. Those definitely count. Smites and Conjure Barrage/Volley still fit the mould, despite being short-duration.

I have reskinned my own Shillelagh spell as a cantrip that acts as shocking grasp except it does magic blunt damage.  Several people know how I hated at will cantrips and wanted wizards to need a staff in combat, this worked for me.  Yes, I made it a wizard spell.
