| #1smartboyathomeSep 25, 2014 21:07:06 | I was inspired a few months ago by Mabon-Tail's Werefox race to create my own version. The goal of this was to create a sly and shifty counterpart to the often out of control Werewolves, just like the dynamics between foxes and wolves in nature. I tried to write it in the style of the Basic Rules and Players Handbook, to give them a lot of flavor while still leaving them open to adaption by DMs to their settings. However, I am a novice at D&D, so while I tried to balance it as best I could, I don't know how successful I was. Any suggestions or improvements are much welcome.

Beyond that, your penalties are rather considerably too harsh. I think the only races wiht a penalty in D&D 5E are the small races and their penalty is limited to simply not being able to use 2-handed weapons. |

That equates to small races not being able to utilize any martial two handed weapons.
And, point being, that's the only significant racial restriction in the game thus far. So a race that takes extra damage from bludgeoning weapons and has disadvantages against poison and disease seems way too swingy. |

Perhaps not appropriate to every setting, but still more useful IMO. Kitsune also wouldn't have the slew of mechanical downsides your proposed race has; just the potential social stigma the same as some other races might have.
More importantly, this race just has way too many fiddly features. Take a look at the official 5e races and realize that some of those have a lot of features. These "werefoxes" just have way too much going on, and most of it way too niche and, as I said, fiddly. They need some serious streamlining before I would ever consider using them. |
