| #1ZardnaarJun 03, 2015 12:56:14 | As the thread title says? Generally I play what the party needs which is usually a cleric or healer. I don't mind as I rarely get to play anyway.
I would probably like a melee rogue or monk though. I tend to like skill type pcs and the Ranger and Bard were my favorite classes in 3.5. |
| #2LeugrenJun 03, 2015 18:54:21 | As a player, I'm generally drawn to really tough front-line warriors: Fighters or Barbarians with poor hygiene, low Charisma, low Intelligence, and a love of violence for its own sake--typically Mountain Dwarves. Unfortunately, I play with a bunch of pretty indecisive guys who aren't all that good at roleplaying, so I often end up serving as the party face! It can get pretty ridiculous when the stinky, cross-eyed dwarf with the metal bar jutting from his skull as the result of an industrial accident is handling delicate negotiations with a gathering of emissaries from all the civilized nations.
With this group, I should probably be playing a Bard, Paladin, or Sorcerer, but my inner dwarf insists they're all a buncha creampuffs! |
| #3Azzy1974Jun 03, 2015 14:36:27 | ALL THE CLASSES!!!!!!! |
| #4AshrymJun 03, 2015 14:58:44 | All the classes but sorcerer. I can enjoy any class in 5e, but the 2 official sorcerer subclasses have flavors attached that I don't care for. The mechanics are good with font of magic and metamagic so giving an alternative to a walking accident or physical mutation I would enjoy them too.
My favorite is bard, but has been for quite some time. I found 5e fighters, rogues, barbarians, rangers, and warlocks more attractive than I have in past editions. In the past it was usually wizards, druids, and bards. Now there's appeal everywhere. |
| #5ZardnaarJun 03, 2015 15:11:34 | My phone ate the OP. Rogue or Monk for me favoured soul or storm sorcerer if I was looking at a spellcaster. |
| #6IstborJun 03, 2015 15:12:01 | I would like the chance to play a Barbarian (yet again). A Dragonblood Sorcerer (maybe even the stormborn if allowed). Probably a Battlemaster fighter. And a fighter/valor bard combo to get a bit closer to that Skald feel.
Plus I want to dip my toes into warlock and possibly druid. I have played a cleric and paladin already which I vastly enjoyed but this is about what I want to play next. Too bad I am stuck DMing for the forseeable future with my home game |

| #8AkeishaJun 03, 2015 15:28:06 | I am pretty much good with any character class, but have seemed to have a bit of an affinity for Fighter classes over other classes during the past year.
I also like to try a bit of all the races, but one that I have not tried yet is a Dragonborn. I think that too will be happening sometime later this year. |
| #9ankiyavonJun 03, 2015 15:42:25 | In general:
Preferred: Wizard. Second choice: Other arcane spellcaster. Third choice: Other spellcaster or psionic character.
I do like to switch it up, so I don't play exclusively wizards (in 5E post-release, I haven't played a wizard yet; I've played an EK and a warlock). But if I had to pick one class to play exclusively, it'd be wizard. |

| #11AdrastusDarkeJun 03, 2015 16:50:43 | I want to play all of them because they're all pretty sweet. Right now I'm making a doctor with the rogue class and I'm hoping to play some kind of spellcaster in another campaign but I don't have many ideas for that yet. So I'm looking forward to playing those the most right now. |

| #13Cyber-DaveJun 03, 2015 18:07:52 | The rogue, warlock, paladin, druid, bard, and ranger all interest me. I could see myself eventually giving the wizard, barbarian, and fighter a spin as well. I have almost zero interest in the monk, sorcerer, and cleric (though, on second thought, an air genasi storm sorcerer might be fun). The rogue, warlock, paladin, druid, and ranger all interest me. I could see myself eventually giving the wizard, barbarian, and fighter a spin as well. I have almost zero interest in the monk and the cleric. Right now, I have a ranger (hunter) 12/rogue (assassin) 8 build that I really want to try out (1st level rogue, then 5 levels of ranger, then 4 more levels of rogue, and then I would see, as long as the end result is 12/8). I also have a gnomish arcane trickster 17/bard 3 I would like to play. And a halfling thief. And a half-elf paladin/warlock hybrid. In other words... lots of stuff. |

| #15ShasarakJun 03, 2015 17:59:05 | I would love to play a Mountain Dwarf caster.
|
| #16GladiusLegisJun 03, 2015 18:05:18 | Paladin is my favorite, and I'm glad to see how well the 5e version of the class was designed, which is the complete opposite of the unplayable mess they were in both 3e and 4e.
Also interested in playing the Bard (either type), the Assassin Rogue and the Battle Master Fighter. |
| #17ZardnaarJun 03, 2015 18:10:23 | The Paladin does indeed rock in this edition. Might even be a little OP. |
| #18DoctorBadWolfJun 03, 2015 19:05:20 | I haven't even skimmed the sorcerer yet, and the wizard I've only read because I was thinking about multiclassing. Otherwise, all the classes are pretty cool. My favorites this edition are definately the Paladin, Warlock, Ranger, Bard and Monk. And my homebrew Assassin, but, that's bias working.
I don't like the Rogue, except for the Arcane Trickster, and the Fighter is too meathead for me to get into it. Even the EK...I'd rather play any other gish in the game.
I do want to mc a barbarian with druid, though. Build basically a much more wild ranger. I'd love it if they made a more shamanistic barbarian than what we've got.
Also, Artificer, assuming they really do take some more chances with the next iteration, and hopefully just let it be it's own class. I feel like the core abilities of the Arti just aren't going to come off without being more than what subclass features can generally be. |
| #19Xeviat-DMJun 03, 2015 19:05:21 | I first want to play a paladin, but I may go against the grain and make a duelist CG Paladin of Honor.
Then, I want to recreate my Monk/Barbarian/Bear Warrior from 3E. I'm not sure how I'd build it, as less stacks in this edition. In 3E, he was the second son of a barbarian chieftain. The chief was told by the shaman that his second son would bring ruin to his kingdom. He didn't want to kill his son, so he dropped him off at a monastery, thinking the monks would raise him to be weak (I mean look at them, they're not strong like us barbarians). He grew up in the monestary, learning their ways, but eventually he stopped progressing. All of his friends were getting better than him. That made him mad. He started getting into real fights. So they kicked him out. In game terms, his alignment had shifted from Lawful, so he wasn't progressing as a Monk anymore. So he went out into the wilds where he embraced his barbarian heritage and his berserker spirit. Then he started wrestling bears.
Then I want to make a traditional monk, just to see how it feels. |

| #21Varden_KholJun 03, 2015 19:43:09 | Open Hand Monk/Eldritch Knight, for returning bonded spear throwing and the Shield spell. Two-weapon fighting Barbarian, using the two broken halves of his murdered father's greatsword. Oath of Ancients Paladin. Dragonborn Fighter, who collects swords and has a sword suited to every foe.
But alas, Perma-DM syndrome is keeping me from all the fun. |
| #22Angry_SteakJun 03, 2015 21:28:01 | If I ever got to play, I'd like to try out a glaive-wielding Battlemaster type. Unsure on race (likely Half-Orc), but I like Rally, Push Attack, and being the tank/off-tank on the front line. Sword and Board Shield Master would be a close second. |
| #23kalilJun 03, 2015 21:50:30 | Left to my own devices I generally wind up some form of druid. Or rogue. Typically sneaky with wilderness skills. I rarely play clerics or paladins. |
| #24SirAntoineJun 03, 2015 22:29:15 | The only class I would play is the ranger. |
| #25Regin_VargtassJun 04, 2015 1:31:19 | For my upcoming campaign I made a Rock Gnome Warlock, GOO pact, going for Chain. I also made five back-up characters, to use if called for: Dragonborn (green) Monk, going for Shadow. Variant human Fighter, going for multiclassing Lore bard/Battlemaster. Eladrin Barbarian, going for Totem path. Drow Paladin, going for Oathbreaker, later redemption as a Necromancer Wizard.
Last campaign I played a Forest Gnome Paladin of Devotion. I am also looking at a Minotaur Storm Sorcerer.
Good times! |
| #26LuisCarlos17fJun 04, 2015 4:56:41 | In the videgames I would rather to be a tank.
I would rather to be out of the standard, and to be no-core classes. I like the psions. |
| #27AaronOfBarbariaJun 04, 2015 5:34:51 | I've always been a big fan of fighters and wizards, so those are the classes I want to play first - in order listed (champion first, even, since it looks like a ton of fun for me).
I actually do, for the first edition ever, want to play pretty much all the other classes in the game too. Only cleric and paladin aren't officially on my list of things I want to play because I dont' really dig their themes, but even then there is the light domain and the oath of the ancients that are almost interesting enough that I am considering officially considering playing them. |
| #28AdjuleJun 04, 2015 7:38:18 | Paladin, Barbarian, and Druid are usually the ones I go for. The only time I have gotten to play 5th edition, I was a mountain dwarf fighter (eldritch knight).
As for characters, I have forever wanted to play a gnoll paladin. Just something about that would be really awesome. For 5th, I would probably go oath of devotion or oath of the ancients. Goliath and dragonborn seem like interesting races. Totem barbarian and (leaning towards) land druid, though moon druid wouldn't be bad. Those would be my choices.
I typically like the "savage and primitive" types, and a oath of the ancients paladin would fit into that as well. I have never really been a fan of the ranger, though. |
| #29ArtifactJun 04, 2015 7:46:59 | The paly was a favorite during 2e and 3e. I enjoyed being the glorified 'cheerleader'
What appealed to me most about the class though was the LG alignment. I never saw it as a mandate; it simply allowed me to say my PC is a stand up good guy, no doubt about it. He's not a holier than thou, stick in the mud, he's more like "Captain America"
= = =
Then, paladins lost the LG schtick and the class just lost its appeal for me. Can't explain why, 'cause I could've still stuck to that alignment.
Anyway, I started playing a warlord PC in 4e. Again, I think the appeal was being the group 'cheerleader', helping where I could.
Never had any desire to play monks or halflings. My first PC in 5e was gonna be a halfling wizard but I decided to go with tiefling at the last minute (the name 'Azrael' fit a tiefling better). My 4e PC was a tiefling, so mebbe I have a new favorite race |
| #30CCSJun 04, 2015 9:53:55 | Character wise I've got something that I'd like play at some point. Just not sure what class I'll make him (race doesn't matter) & he needs to be in the right game/setting/campaign to work.
He's a tax collector. He's attached to the adventuring party to ensure that the Government/Kingdom/Realm gets its cut of the loot the party finds. As for class? I figure I've got to make him something nearly indespensable to the party given his "job". |

| #34MechaPilotJun 04, 2015 19:48:23 | Yesterday I helped a friend write up a character for an upcoming campaign where I will run the LMnoP adventure for the players, which I'm looking forward to as I haven't had a gaming group in a while now.
Once I got home, I decided to try to re-create one of my favorite characters from a previous edition, my deranged star-pact warlock from 4e. I have to admit that the finished product didn't thrill me as much as my 4e warlock did when I had first created her. The 4e warlock was my first exposure to the warlock class, which I loved, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm actually going to like the 5e warlock. I am hoping to end up liking it though. Maybe if I let it sit for a while then go back and reflect on it again I'll be more excited about it. |

| #41WhirJun 05, 2015 20:45:26 | If I ever get to play (anyone got a spot in an online game, huh, huh?) I'd like to try a valor bard, life cleric, or hordebreaker ranger. Or a slightly broken, warpick-wielding gnome barbarian. One of those. |
