Hello friends!

I may be new to D&D, but I know enough to see some things that are definate improvements over the only D&D I've known: 3.5. First, the good.
1. There are actual game mechanic reasons to come up with a good back story. As far as I can tell, the reason for coming up with a back story in 3.5 is "because I want to."

2. Not only is making a back story important, roleplaying your character to fit can give you bonuses.

3. Rather than add billions of modifiers to everything, WotC came up with the advantage/disadvantage system

4. There are effectively 44 different classes with the class customization rules.

5. Spellcasters don't need weapons, what with having infinite cantrips, from my understanding.

Now, the bad.

1. Combat seems too simplistic and contains too many absolutes (a natural 20 is always a hit? and a crit? so a mouse can hit a dragon 5% of the time? no. that's not how real life works.)

2. I worry that the class customization paths will be too restrictive

3. I worry how balanced encounters are going to be, what with how much stronger the classes seem to be compared to their 3.5 counterparts.
