what if we remapped the six stats to the six senses ??

okay, so

the eyesight I put with intelligence / aim

the hearing I put with wisdom / understanding

the touch, even if linked to the hands, would to my corrupted mind ( lol ) pertain to charisma; the reason to this is the sense of touch, silk cloth, and appearance...

the sense of smell is linked to breathing and, as such could refer Str/Stamina; but for unknown reasons I put it with Dexterity;

the sense of taste is linked to digestive properties and then look to the constitution...

then the sixth sense, like in danger sense, will go with Strength...

(as of usual, obviously due to my short eyesight, the skeleton is good but is confused in the application; hope some of you find some food herein )

I thought the six sense was seeing dead people, but I suppose all PC's have that eventually.

There isn't a sixth sense, unless you're houseruling in something beyond human biology (i.e. sensing if magic is present - though fantasy authors usually do this by expanding an existing sense, such as Terry Pratchett's literal Colour of Magic). You can get something close (proprioception, the so-called "kinesthetic sense", that lets you know how your body is positioned in absense of all other feedback; this is particularly noteworthy in the case of pain in phantom limbs), but all of the potential "sixth senses" that people describe are either imaginary or just applications of other senses, usually touch.

Besides, the fantasy archetype of the hero sneaking past something bigger and stronger than themselves (such as giants (Odysseus and the Cyclops, plus nearly every single fairy tale featuring giants) or dragons (Bilbo and Smaug, and the legions of dragons that scene inspired)) would be impossible if Strength mapped on to a danger sense.

And that's before you get into the other five. I'd just as soon rename "Wisdom" into "Awareness" and call it a day.

"I see grognard people..."

But there are more senses than the 5. Like balance, pain, temperature, so on. Which you could you to more easily and be more relevant to the stats than the main 5 you listed. And in game those senses wouldn't have much of playable impact.

in buddhism there are six senses, the five plus a sixth named "mental sense";

indeed wisdom could be remapped into awareness, but then danger sense, which at high levels becomes cosmic awareness, would refer to wisdom;

and, I'm not sure whether awareness is synonymous to understanding / reasoning ( what I call other names for wisdom )

then, reasoning is not the same as aim / judgement ( say intelligence )

This might work as a tarot-like system. Just as you have Cups and Swords and Stars and whatnot that somehow correspond neatly to primal elements, cardinal directions, emotions, humors, etc., you could declare by fiat that there are 6 senses, and they are metaphysically connected to your 6 "fundamental attributes" (ability scores.)

STR = touch; dumb, brute, physical awareness

DEX = hearing. Because Daredevil. You can hear in every direction, so better hearing would make you more aware and able to react to stuff.

CON = taste. You are what you eat. Relates to sensing poison in your food before swallowing it.

INT = vision. Ability to see a large area as a snapshot and analyze it in detail; can easily be fooled, and can miss important things because you can only see one direction.

WIS = "sixth sense"; sensing physic disturbances, magic, etc. Basically a new-agey definition of "wisdom" and "being in tune with nature." The kind of definition people apply to insist that scientists and rational people are "blind" to some unquantifiable "reality" of the world, to which priests and mystics are deeply attuned. Some kind of "down-to-earth"-iness that un-clouds one's mind and makes them more receptive to the non-obvious. (This is pretty much how D&D already treats Wisdom.)

CHA = smell. Insert convoluted ad hoc justification here, because smell doesn't map to anything well.

Tarot and other metaphysical systems, especially those concerns with numeracy (as this is; seeing "6 senses" and "6 abilities" and arbitrarily declaring they must be linked), are very arbitrary anyway, thus they need very complex justifications that rely heavily on metaphor to not be instantly recognized as being as silly as they are. It will never make sense when mapped onto the game as-is, because it wasn't designed with these tidy correlations in mind; then again, the same is true of astrology,  and people seem intrigued by that.

I'm surprised that no one has yet suggested that Charisma be based off your level of Taste.

And to think, characters with high SMELL could go around telling people they stink!
