#1 Slit518 May 15, 2015 19:33:51	When I type it in on Google, I get matches for Mass Effect, some for D&D and some matches for other games. Is Justicar just an alternate spelling for Justiciar?  Are they the same thing, or are they two separate things? Do they both mean a high, judicial official?  Thanks for any information on this and how Justicar relates to D&D.
#2 Tempest_Stormwind May 15, 2015 19:40:53	"Justicar" is a corruption of "Justiciar", since sometimes English speakers don't realize the term's ending rhymes with "seer" instead of "car". See also: "Calvary" instead of cavalry, or anyone who pronounces "blackguard" as "black guard" (in truth it's more like "blaggard").   The term "justiciar" has been used a few times in D&D to refer to character types similar to the modern 5e Vengeance paladin, just with more legal backing - more the "Bring 'em back alive and in chains" type. (For instance, the 3e version was actually proficient with manacles as weapons, and was quite capable of hog-tieing wrongdoers if they didn't cooperate.) I don't see it in use in 5e currently.

#5 SirAntoine May 15, 2015 20:43:32	The ranger's kit was the Justifier, a LG-only warlord basically.  The Justiciar is a title the paladin used to have, perhaps at 7th or 8th level.  It's someone vested with authority to pursue justice.  Modern examples would include a district attorney, judge, police inspector, etc.

#9 Artifact May 16, 2015 0:34:08	Monster Manual III (for 3e) had the 'justicator'.  Described as a winged, nine foot tall man dressed in mithril full plate.     All business, always lawful, smite makes right (kill chaotic creatures).   There was a sidebar describing justicators in Eberron.  They fight chaos on the plane of Shavarth (a plane of whirling blades and battlefields) but are actually native to the plane of Daanvi.  The were quite a few sidebars like this in the MMIII (some for Forgotten Realms, or both).
