What's Broke?

Lets make a list of all things broken. I don't mean broken in the overpowered sense, I mean broken as in they don't actually work.

1. Long Rests recovery of HD.

You always round down unless noted otherwise. During a long rest you regain one-half of your HD. So, at level 1, you never regain HD from rest.

2. Potent Cantrip

Your targets suffer 1/2 damage when they save against your cantrips. As a wizard, you have no cantrips which cause the target to make a saving throw.

Towards the bottom of page 7, the rules go into determining ability scores.  That goes on until page 8 when they bring up describing your character then on page 9 they introduce Choosing Equipment and put in ability score point cost and ability modifiers in between the section on AC and weapons.

If you played a multiclass Cleric/Wizard, Potent Cantrip would work on Sacred Flame. So it has a theoretical use.

Without the full multiclass rules, you can't take advantage of it mind you; but in theory it has a use.

"Also worth noting that the list of spells in basic is not a complete list of the spells available once PHB comes out.

There are plenty of references to stuff that's in the PHB that isn't quite in effect yet."

This is true, but if the Basic rules are intended as an eventual standalone product not requiring the use of the PHB, shouldn't at least ONE of the wizard cantrips included make use of the class feature of the ONLY wizard type in the set?

"That may come with D&D Basic updates. The current document anticipates a complete version 1.0 document towards the end of the year. There may be cantrips added to the Basic game at that time or before."

Well, we don't know the future, so I can't say you're wrong. I think you are wrong - I think that new sections will be added, but that the sections we already have will not be expanded or revised - but we'll have to wait and see.

Humans get a free feat at that can be spent on a ability score bump (no other choices thus far.) I like humans, but I figured people might consider that broken.
