I've just posted on my blog an article about running one of the published D&D Storyline Adventures with the same characters as those you took through the Starter Set. Each of the published adventures has a "jumping-in" point that works with the Starter Set, but they're not always detailed. This article details my advice for linking a published adventure with Lost Mine of Phandalin

With any luck, I'll keep it updated as more information comes out about Out of the Abyss and further published adventures.

Hope you like it! If you can think of any other advice I should add or emendments I should make, please let me know!

Cheers!

I think linking the Starter Set to Princes of the Apocalypse is easy as pie. Just replace Red Larch with Phandalin and you're good to go. The trade delegation from Mirabar can be headed to Wave Echo Cave, of which the players are likely co-owners. Wave Echo Cave can even be the spot where the artifacts wielded by the elemental prophets were forged. And the elemental temples can be dropped around Phandalin where ever the DM desires. Heck, Wave Echo Cave might even link directly to the water temple.

I would take a similar approach to Hoard of the Dragon Queen, replacing Greenest with Phandalin. Once the players defend their village from the Cult (perhaps assisted by Venomfang), they should be highly incentivized to pursue the rest of the adventure. There are many chapters within HotDQ that can be cut without breaking the adventure, so where to trim is really just a matter of DM preference.
