So far I have noticed Forgotten Realms, obviously,  Dragonlance, Ebberon, Greyhawk,  and Planescape referenced in the PHB.  While I have not finished the book, I have yet to see any mention of Dark Sun, Ravenloft,  Kara Tur,  or Spelljammer.  I know that a lot of people were not fond of Spelljammer but I did like it.

I hope to see support for, Planescape, Dark Sun, Spelljammer,  Ravenloft,  and Kara Tur.

Does anyone have any theories or better yet inside info on what world's will be supported?

Birthright and Dark Sun.  My other two suggestions are already supported.

Elton74,  I have never played Birthright but have heard that it is a lot like Game of Thrones.  If that's true I would expect it to make a return since GoT's is so popular.

I'd like to see Ravenloft make a comeback.  As far as others well, I hope with FR they go beyond Faerun and bring Al-Qadim back.  I never had much of a chance to deal with Spelljammer or Planescape and would be interested in seeing more of them.  I was also a bit miffed about how 3.x pretty much seemed to quietly shove Greyhawk under the rug so I'd like to see more of that as well.

Id like to see Ravenloft. I hope they leave Greyhawk and Birthright alone (I dont trust them).

What ever world that WOTC decide to support I hope they publish more adventures than they did for 4e.  I mean Dark Sun only got the Campaign Guide, Creature Catalog,  and one adventure.

I hope the settings all return in boxed sets, with maps, player books, adventures, monsters all included.

Spelljammer may not have been very loved in its time, but lately I've been hearing more people want to see it. I'll admit, maybe it's just anecdotal, or maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see because I've been lurking in places that have an unusually high concentration of people that want to see the return of Spelljammer, too. But regardless of me being possibly delusional, I'd still love to see new Spelljammer products. I don't care whether or not they do adventures--I can provide plenty of space-piratey adventuring for my party without them--but books with rules on ship-to-ship combat, shipbuilding, new locales, Spelljammer-specific races and classes, those I would love to see. A lot of the 2E stuff they had didn't really do it for me, but I loved Spelljammer as a concept, and I'd love to have it return in 5E.

I doubt it'll happen, what with all the focus on their other, higher profile campaign settings, but I can dream, can't I?

My favorite setting is Eberron, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement for it amongst the WotC staff, unfortunately.

I'd also like to see the 4E "Points of Light" default world developed into a full campaign setting.

Birthright. I'd settle for rules modules that support it (domain management, mass battles), list of domains for the deities, and a conversion guide for bloodlines.

Yeah, I'd love to see Eberron, Dark Sun, and also, most importantly, Nerath, updated to 5e.

So far, Nerath seems to be completely ignored by the PHB, amongst all the previous "core" settings.  Not a single mention of Nerath-originating deities like Ioun, Avandra, or the Raven Queen.  :/

Oh, I'm sorry.  I didn't see it as an attack on me, Wizzards, or 4e.  ;)

I'm super excited for 5e too, quite honestly.  I'm sorry if I sounded a bit heated.

I would suggest considering the digital content, however, in both the form of the D&Dclassics pdf store and the D&Di account (anyone can get ALL of the 4e magazines with just a month's subscription now), since there's just so much great stuff out there that is hard and/or impossible to find in physical copies.

I'm sorry that I sounded rough around the edges.  I'm tired.  I just remember so much exciting 4e Dark Sun content; it was the first edition to actually treat the setting well since 2e, and I would say it almost treated it BETTER than 2e.  Certainly, it was more playable than 2e Dark Sun, but in terms of content, there just was so much published for it.

Anyway, I'm excited for future setting publications too.  I expect Eberron and Forgotten Realms to get full write-ups at the very least (and Forgotten Realms within the first year or so), but I'm sorely hoping for Dark Sun and Nerath, and wouldn't mind Spelljammer, Planescape, Birthright, Hollow World, Mystara, Blackmoor, Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Kara-Tur, Al-Qadim, Maztica…

Agreed.  4e's greatest folly was trying to force square pegs into round holes, which it did in a number of places before backpedling on that design.  Unfortunately, it couldn't save it, and by the time they were publishing fixes for it, they had also begun work on 5e in case the rescue books were just too little, too late. They still were, however, some of the finest publications made for 4e – Neverwinter Campaign Setting was, for example, the first FR setting book I actually ENJOYED READING, which got me interested in playing the Realms for the first time.  And Heroes of the Feywild, despite having very little material on running a Feywild game, is perhaps one of the best setting books EVER PUBLISHED for D&D.

Eberron is what I am looking forward to, and of course Dragonlance.  I will Likely begin in Greyhawk since the Pantheon is included in the P.H. and no special racial info is required to run it.

Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Mystara (the 'Known World' of Basic D&D), Birthright, Dark Sun, and Eberron are all mentioned by name in Appendix C; The Planes of Existence.

I haven't noticed any mention of Planescape (not by name, although Sigil is mentioned).  No Spelljammer (or Crystal Spheres)., No Ravenloft demiplane (although the Castle is mentioned early in the Intro descriptive text).  No Al-Qadim.  No Kara-Tur.  These last two are sure to show up eventually though, given that the Realms are the default setting this time out.

I'd like them to push the envelope and paradigm for campaign settings. I'm not against rerelease of old settings, but I'd like to see some new directions for fantasy adventure settings.

What about a setting with strange technology? What about a setting based around non-European culture and legend? What about a setting that is based around PCs' ties to the world, making them vassals and rulers? Some old settings have tried these, but why never try them again?

Anyone think we'll see dedicated product lines like we last saw during 3e and earlier?  4e only gave us a Setting Book, a Player's Book, and an Adventure.  I wonder if DDN will go that route or do something more expansive (like actual boxed sets --Woot! ).

I've been playing since the days of basic and 1E/2E. There are a lot of classic campaigns out there which deserve some support to one degree or another.

If I am honest I do not see WotC releasing any new books for Dragonlance (or any of the other classic campaigns) outside perhaps a single "classic campaign" book (one a year to mark the anniversary of D&D perhaps) and articles in Dragon/Dungeon magazines. With the rule-system for 5E being very backward compatible, and so much material already available in PDF format, any DM could purchase a PDF, could in theory make a few adjustments to the various stats - and run them as they are. Any special rules that needed to be converted would likely be addressed in a magazine articles or a PDF purchasable from the on-line store.

But if WotC were to release material (in any format) what would I like to see?

Personally I would be interested in Dragonlance, but WotC would need to do something special to bring me back to the world of Krynn. Dragonlance was always my first choice of setting, and most of the adventures I ran were there. Unfortunatey, the setting has gone through a number of rapid reboots with major changes - each to explain the changes in the rules/system used (2nd edition to SAGA system, then to SAGA to 3rd edtion) that the setting now feels stretched and (dare i say it) stale.

Dragonlance needs fresh material which does not cover material already covered a dozen times - and certainly does not require another cataclysmic event to explain the new rules. Perhaps Taladas before the cataclysm. All we have to date is a broad view of what it was like covered in a couple of pages of narrative in the Time of the Dragon boxed set. Heck, I would be happy to see an Age of Mortals viewpoint of Taladas. Failing that, perhaps a campaign toolkit detailing the important events, locations and people involved in the Legends Trilogy.

I'd also like some more Nerath. I'd be content with them finishing the Nerathi Legends series. There are still so many locations on that game board that I'd love to know about. Like the Isle of the Druids, what's up with that?

Spelljammer rules them all. It is really both its own campaign setting (which rocks!) and the means to visit all other campaign settings (unless one says it is cut off from the phlogiston like Dark Sun was I think). It was only for the big boys, as if you tried to survive out in space or the flow, you needed to be higher level or you would be devoured. Think entire ships of Mind Flayers, 50+ flayers on a single ship, or Beholder Ships with 10+ beholders per ship, plus all their slaves. Nasty stuff if you were not high level...

Radiant Dragons...yes, Spelljammer....

While I personally have a hope to see Eberron and Planescape especially, I also feel that most campaign settings could do with books that are almost entirely fluff, while leaving the cruch aspects to a more neutral setting line.

In addition to this, however, I also think 5th Edition's greatest strength is how modular it is. Microsettings, such as 3rd Edition's Ghostwalk, would be welcome for me. Take a couple of those microsettings and combine them into a single world for short campaigns, add more as the campaign goes on, or custom fill other areas of the game. I feel they'd be more useful than full campaign settings, but as always, it's a your-mileage-may-vary sort of area.

My favourites are Ravenloft and Dark Sun.

Although I don't think 5th Edition is a good fit for any of those settings.

PCs in 5e are too super-powered for a Ravenloft game, in my opinion. The setting requires a more down-to-earth type of PCs to capture that horror feel.   And as for Dark Sun, 5e rules are too hand-holding to capture the brutality and survival-theme of this setting.   Although for DS more powerful PCs don't matter and are actually a part of the setting, the general rules in 5e make life way too easy on players which sort of contradicts the whole purpose of this setting.   I suppose maybe with some optional rules it could fit, if possible to leave the setting a lot grittier than it is right now.

Planescape and Spelljammer, two settings I also find very interesting, are good options that could fit better with 5e, I suppose.

Eberron, Spelljammer, Darksun, and Ravenloft are the settings I would consider purchasing published material for, or running 'out of the box'.  Most other settings are a bit too 'generic fantasy' to hold my interest as such, but of course I'd still like to see support for any established setting as they all have fans that support them.  So I'd rather see a lot of campaign books for different settings than a ton of books for just a few, though sadly the latter model probably makes ore financial sense.  After all, if there are 5 forgotten realms campaigns run for every one darksun game, then it makes sense to print two books that might both be purchased by all players in all five realms games than one book for each setting knowing that the dark sun book will only have one fifth the potential audience.

Quick Dark Sun question for those that played 4e.

I don't have the time to create my own adventures anymore so I rely on published ones, however a nearby book store has a copy of the DS Campaign Guide for 4e in mint condition for $20.    Would I find this book usefull in a 5e game or should I wait for a 5e version?

Thanks

It won't have pregen adventures, just campaign information about darksun.  If that's what you want, fine, but you can probably find 2e darksun material online, and that will have more setting detail than 4e material, which means it will translate better to 5e.  Seriously, just google '2e darksun', see what you can find.

I don't think you'd get much use out of it.  4e and 5e are very different kinds of games (even though they both have D&D on the cover).  Unless you wanted to buy it just for the flavor.  And if that's the case, you can buy the 2 stuff as PDF for say, $10 bucks (or less).

I did love the supplemental boxed set for Ravenloft in 2e (the name of the set eludes me) that had like fake Tarot Cards (Tarokka cards I think they were called and fortune dice in it)
