I am not very familiar with the intricacies of druid casting in 5e yet.
The only thing coming to mind is that Shillelagh could be very useful to the eldritch knight. edit: but I don't have a problem with that combination |

I've done similar several times. |

Druid spell list is more nature-based, having a hodgepodge of healing, offensive, and defensive spells. If you're looking for something more divine in theme, then Cleric would be the better choice. An AT with the Cleric list could be called an Inquisition Priest, as no one expects them coming. Giving the EK Cleric spells would be the Holy Crusader, using the powers granted by their deity to stay in the fight until the battle is won. If you do go the Druid route, be aware that any Rangers in the party might not like Fighters and Rogues stepping on their toes, as Ranger is the default class for martial class with nature magic. |
| #5TenaciousJAug 26, 2015 13:55:46 | I went with Druid because I was thinking of something like Dark Sun. No gods, and arcane magic is outlawed/restricted. |
| #6AhrimonAug 27, 2015 8:24:13 | Well, the source of the magic is entirely fluff. I could make a druid, change the name to Sorcerer, and call it arcane magic and it wouldn't change anything. If it's the theme of the spellcasting, then changing the spell list to druid without changing the casting stat works fine too. It depends on what you want from your EK and AT. Do they learn they're druidic magic through study, does it come to them from their connection to the world, or do they bring about the magic through sheer force of will? Study = Int, Connection=Wis, Force of Will=Cha. |
| #7TenaciousJAug 27, 2015 9:59:36 | The source is fluff, but my opinion of the spells presented in 5e is that arcane-only spells tend to be a little bit better than divine-only spells of the same level. My intent is to have some new things for the sake of having some new things. In exchange for what I consider a weaker spell list, I want to allow Wisdom as the ability modifier, as the magic is derived from a connection to the world that wants to protect itself from defiling magic. I also want to use the spells known number as a spells prepared number instead, without a school restriction.
What I mean by "break" is if there's some combination of druidic magic with the abilities of these 2 archetypes that would be completely disruptive to play. I do not see any, but I'm double checking because I have little experience with 5e druid magic. |
