| #1KavrekSep 10, 2014 15:51:05 | I have noticed 'Greyhawk' mentioned in the phb since 3.5 and I really would like to know more about this setting. Where is a good place to start/buy campain books, adventures/ maps etc... |

The other settings are very interesting, I especially enjoyed Darksun in 4th ed, but it was missing that certain something for me to want to make it my persistent and prefered world for long term campaigns. |

The Living Greyhawk Gazetteer also has a ton of lore and is a good sourcebook for the setting. |

| #11ShiroikenSep 10, 2014 19:48:26 | I would suggest looking at either the 1983 Boxed Set or the 3E Living Greyhawk Gazeteer. Cannonfire has some good sources, but please realize that very little from that site (other than the awesome wiki) contains "official" material. |
| #12Arawn76Sep 11, 2014 3:06:37 | If it hasn't already been mentioned check out dndclassics for some of the original material. I prefer the 2e stuff as a rule but in fairness the 3e sourcebook is rules agnostic for the most part. |
| #13frothsofSep 11, 2014 4:23:16 | My advice is get the original box set (not the folio) and ignore everything else (save some of the early adventures). The Greyhawk Wars box set is ok but its all downhill from there. The 3x Greyhawk stuff is an abomination. I hope they leave it alone with 5e. The og box is a classic though. Thats what i use for my AD&D game. |
| #14pauln6Sep 11, 2014 11:19:03 | Lol - the 3e stuff adds a lot more information but where it fell down was trying to integrate LG into Greyhawk core meant that every nation had to have its share of every race, harry potter style wizard schools started popping up in every major city along with bard schools, ranger schools, and a proliferation of sorcerers. It diluted the origial flavour a fair bit.
There is a lot to love in the 3e stuff but I intend to pare it back so that wizards learn in master apprentice type scenarios not massive organisations, with the exception of the famous wizard schools in Greyhawk, Ekbir, Rel Astra, and a few other cities.
I think the 2e Adventure Begins booklet has enough in it to whet your appetite so maybe start with that. |
| #15Brock_LandersSep 11, 2014 12:50:33 | Another vote for the original boxed set, I like to stick with the original book/boxed set for any campaign setting (ignore all the Time of Troubles, Spellplague, Prism Pentad, Faction War, etc). |
| #16frothsofSep 11, 2014 13:06:59 | Thats typically good advice. |
| #17ZardnaarSep 11, 2014 13:07:25 | Yeah TSR went overboard on metaplot for almost every setting. War of the Immortals, Prism Pentad,Unhuman War. Stick with the original stuff for every setting IMHO. |
