| #1TheBDUAug 12, 2014 17:37:47 | Anybody know who made the dice for the starter set? I like them and would like to expand on the 6 to make a matching set. 3 more d6, another d20, etc. |
| #2Plaguescarred1Aug 12, 2014 17:56:32 | Outside WoTC i doubt anyone knows
FYI I have asked Mike Mearls about it;
@Plaguescarred @mikemearls Can you help TheBDU? He want to know who made the dice for the Starter Set to expand his set. Tx http://community.wizards.com/forum/product-and-general-dd-discussions/threads/4125171 … |

| #4KarnosAug 12, 2014 18:43:03 | As a player, I love the starter set dice- so far both DMs who have used them seem to roll consistently low on monster attack rolls.
|
| #5VeleriaAug 12, 2014 18:53:39 | you might try buying from people who bought the box but don't want the dice. Check your FLGS and online. |
| #6alienuxAug 13, 2014 18:34:11 | I like the look of my Starter Set dice, but some of the numbers are in the wrong places compared to normal dice sets. |
| #7TheBDUAug 14, 2014 12:31:28 | Well thanks anyway for trying Plague, that's not a bad idea Veleria. |

| #9MrHotterAug 14, 2014 13:31:47 | I've seen several people say they liked the dice and I was thinking 'uh...they're just dice'. Then I felt them a I like the way they roll, so now I'm not liking my huge bag of dice as much.
Now I just need to steal one of my daughters crayons to freshen up some of my old dice. |

| #12quindiaAug 14, 2014 14:34:14 | Maybe just buy extra starter sets? They are only $12 on Amazon (plus free shipping if you have a PRIME membership) and most dice sets are around $10... |

| #14JC999Aug 14, 2014 15:11:09 | I thought I remembered reading that WotC got their dice from a company called "Wiz Dice" but I may be wrong. |
| #15wezefireJan 08, 2015 19:00:21 | I don't know if Karnos is being serious but these dice really do roll low consistently for me. They are my prettiest and worst dice yet. |
| #16IstborJan 09, 2015 9:35:45 | I had the opposite effect from the dice as others have stated. Right now they are my lead Player Killer dice, they roll 20's and max dmg like crazy. I love them. |

| #20Jedric0202Jan 13, 2015 1:40:05 | My Starter Set dice have also been the player killers. Whenever I roll them, I think to myself, "GMs are supposed to rule these against noobs!?" |
| #21RobotElderJan 13, 2015 18:47:34 | I wish they'd make a starter dice set with each die a different color. D20 red, D12 black, d6 blue, etc.
That way, with brand new players, you can say "to attack, roll the D20.... that's the red one..."

| #23MakakiJan 28, 2015 19:08:13 | Anybody have any info on this, at least by trial-and-error?
I own the starter sets for both the 4th edition and 5th edition (black and blue respectively). And just like the OP would love to expand with the same brand. I also own 1 set of chessex dice, but they are different than the start set ones.
So I can either expand the on the chessex dice or expand on the starter set dice (which I have more)
Does anybody own both the starter set dice, and Wiz Dice to make a comparison? How similar are they? Can you make a comparison to other dice brands you own?
Note, that these comparisons are not meant to indicate which one is "better", it's just to try and figure out who made the dice.
The D&D Essentials product line did have a "Roleplaying Game Dice" set (WOC24469) but it's possible WoTC didn't "manufacturer" these and just re-packaged them from a "bigger" dice manufacturer. In any case, seems that product is rare to find. If you don't own the starter set but own that product, can you do the comparison with those?
|
| #24MakakiFeb 11, 2015 16:46:08 | I refuse to believe nobody has a starter set (4th or 5th) and any other brand of dice, enough to say:
"I have the 5th starter and chessex dice, they are different dice. The font on the numbers is different, and chessex has sharper edges."
EDIT:
I don't own the Wiz Dice, but looking at videos on youtube, I spotted a few differences. Mostly font differences. I don't know however if the shape is similar.
EDIT2:
Doesn't seem to be "Dave's Dice" either.
So still in search of other brands.

| #26FindalasApr 19, 2015 15:09:00 | I've been looking for thice dice as well since they are the closest thing I can find to the original TSR dice I used as a kid. From what I can tell, they are extremely similar to these Koplow dice: http://amzn.com/B00KYN6Y26 with a few exceptions: |
| #27DanyBallonApr 21, 2015 3:08:11 | Have looked at Koplow Games dices? I don't have the strater set so I can't tell if they are the same. |
| #28FindalasApr 21, 2015 20:39:10 | So I ordered the Koplow dice aaaaaaaand, it's "sort of" them. Physically, they appear to be the exact same dice. The d12 and d6 have almost identical numbering, except the Koplow dice have much more paint (which could be limited to just this particular set I received). The font on the other dice is completely different—much thinner/taller on the Koplows. What's odd is both sets use a combination of serif and sans-serif fonts.
I guess this will have to remain a mystery.

| #29Enevhar_AldarionApr 21, 2015 22:21:40 | Did anyone ever try to contact WotC customer service to see if they would tell you, or at least tell you that whether they will ever be released for sale separately?
Also, anyone check through all the printed material that came in the box to see if a manufacturer was listed anywhere? |
