| #2AaronOfBarbariaMay 17, 2015 1:52:39 | I give no XP for treasure - treasure is a reward on its own and doesn't need further reward attached to it.
XP in my campaigns comes from completing goals, and "get treasure" is usually a step along the way rather than the goal itself. |
| #3pukunuiMay 17, 2015 15:59:54 | I don't think anyone's awarded XP for treasure since 1e ... |
| #4SirAntoineMay 17, 2015 16:52:48 | It's a fundamental part of D&D to me. I've used the standard rate, 1 XP/ platinum sometimes, and enjoyed the merchant class from BECMI, who earned XP from business. |

Players start to think of ways to avoid fights using diplomacy, intimidation, deception, stealth, etc. It can turn into a whole different game, one that's an awful lot of fun to play. |

| #12SirGrotiusMay 18, 2015 7:35:20 | I never really considered it, since I'm more so a product of 3rd edition, that said, it makes some sense to me in that it livens up the amount of treasure dropped. I recall higher level characters becoming somewhat immune to the amount of coins found, unless they were really engaged in a building project, with which not every type of character is interested. Everyone loves XP, though. ;) I also like the idea of it motivating some more thieving. |
| #13intentlyMay 18, 2015 13:20:20 | I don't give XP for acquiring treasure. I might give XP for the actions of discovering/exploring/earning that lead to treasure. I also like to give XP for *spending* treasure in story-appropriate ways (i.e., not just buying adventuring gear). |
| #14edwin_suMay 18, 2015 13:41:13 | It depends pm the campaign.
If in the campaign the players are truesure hunters they will be rewarded for tresure recoverd. In the same way if in the campaign the players would be smuggelers they would be rewarded for the amount of contraband smuggled. A pirate campaign would reward doing typical pirate things like buriing tresure, and siezing ships.
I like to cater what I give XP for to pugh the theme/genre of the setting

Treasure is found or received as pay, while xp is received from overcoming challenges. |

| #28RanthalanMay 19, 2015 8:58:30 | With the vastly reduced experience requirements to gain levels, XP for gold isn't needed. In 1E, most classes needed 2,000 XP to advance to 2nd level. In 5E every class needs 300 XP. |
