| #1ishan_whNov 03, 2008 15:23:08 | Hello people, I was wondering if anybody knows the current status of Ravenloft for the 4E... are there going to be new core classes. Is the Witch Hunter going to be a core class or paragon path (I bet a Ranger could have the Paragon Path of Witch Hunter) I rather see the witch hunter as full core class since it goes with the flavor of the Lands of the Mists... Thanks for the interest |
| #2rotipherNov 03, 2008 15:28:52 | AFAWK, Ravenloft hasn't been placed on WotC's list of worlds to be given an official 4E treatment. That doesn't mean it won't ever happen, just that it won't possibly be attempted until 2010 at the earliest. |
| #3gnarfflingerNov 04, 2008 0:49:34 | I would think that a Witch Hunter could be developed as a Paragon Path. A Cleric, Rogue or Ranger would be good classes to lead into it, but open it to anyone. |
| #4IrvingNov 05, 2008 13:04:48 | It'd probably be best as a Ranger paragon path. With multiclass feats, any other class could join the merriment. |
| #5ishan_whNov 05, 2008 15:19:18 | It'd probably be best as a Ranger paragon path. With multiclass feats, any other class could join the merriment. I agree, lets face it the witch hunter is a crossbow skirmisher and I think everybody likes that look... "the guy with the crossbow"... not like Wolverines Van Helsing hahaha lol... but it is like the common stereotype. As for the paragon path I go with a Ranger path (agreeing with you Irving) I have been pondering on the Witch Hunter Paragon Path... obviously it will have the Cleric´s Turn Undead albeit a little bit weaker than that of a full fledged Cleric. Another Power I thought was like I name it: "Wooden Doom", I got it from the Skirmish DnD miniature - Vampire Hunter (Unhallowed edition); it should be modified. (I´m still working on those details) - Wooden Stake: Use before this creature attacks a Vampire target; if the attack damages the target, it is also Helpless (save ends). Well people lets do something about this if anyone is up to the task of helping me lol Thanks guys for your words... |
| #6Luis_CarlosNov 08, 2008 15:25:58 | It could be a basic class, with the name hexe-jadger. I imagine it like the witch-hunter of warhammer, with half a dozen of guns. It would be a martial striker with "shield of faith", a defender role about the supernatural powers. ![]() |

Hey thanks for the support and I am gonna buy WARO (warhammer online because of the witch hunter although is a little bit too pirate lol) AS fot the Ravenloft witch hunter I want to go with the crossbow style and abilities from the Witch Hunter PrC from one of the Ravenloft campaign accessories hehe I have been checking the ranger but it seems to bow oriented dunno if it can work with the crossbows as well Gonna ponder more on this subject I sure would like a more solid base (so far I agree with Irving with the ranger aspect but like I said it needs more) Thanks people "Itching to see the Witch Hunter 4E or the Ravenloft 4E lol" |
| #8IrvingNov 11, 2008 9:10:14 | As long as we're bringing up pistols: I think it's far better to treat firearms as alchemical items, not weapons per se. Take a look at the rules for alchemist's fire in the Adventurer's Vault and you'll see what I mean. It solves a lot of the problems that firearms generally produce in D&D. |

I don´t support the use of guns in D20 but it´s no problem besides a flintlock might work exactly like a crossbow since it has the "reloading" issue, lets face it the Ranger might be the best option for a Witch Hunter but all his powers are bow oriented (making aside the 2wp fighting) I´m trying to focus the Witch Hunter with the crossbow but the crossbow powers can work exactly with a gun, I was thinking in giving it powers like to get himself out of trouble and sight and skirmish undead, shapeshifters, demons oriented too. PS It also must have Religion as class skill for it too choose we can focus the Ranger Witch Hunter path through this maybe... Im just brainstorming here lol |
| #10Luis_CarlosNov 14, 2008 14:33:37 | I rebember there is a spell (Ghostly reload) of level 1 from Races of Dragons wich a crossbow reload itself. Do you rebember the crossbow from Van Hellsing movie (the first combact, in the town). I think a witch hunter could use a repeating crosbow (for example the chinese Chu-ko-nu). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_crossbow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polybolos ![]() ![]() The power of witch hunter could be from the presige class occult slayers (from complete warrior) and witch hunter from Oriental Adventures. In my mind I have the memory of the ancient priest from the a film "chinese ghost story". |

So these ideas are a good start I´ll check the Occult Slayer from the Complete Warrior, but as for some sort of conversion I will need the help of those who knows how the system works since I just got my 4E core books, I still have to fill in my own gaps on the new system lol (guess I too used to 3.5 E hehehe) I´ll get to it PS : Luis Carlos 1- You speak spanish (I do lol) 2- We can start working on those powers from the occult slayer and the witch hunter from the Oriental Campaign, also we gotta check the official Witch Hunter from the Ravenloft campaign setting cause it is more oriented in flavor. Let me know Thanks people |
| #12ishan_whNov 16, 2008 12:16:32 | So here is the reason for my interest and devotion to Ravenloft. First of all I guess that I can speak for everybody when if asked "who´s your favorite dnd character?" the first one that comes into your mind because of all the things you did/ survived with that character. I believe we all have one, cause when a character becomes this in the players mind that sheet becomes more than just numbers lol... This is Ishan McKoull my "legendary" Witch Hunter, I made it in 2nd edition ravenloft and then in 3E thanks to S&S )' /> |
| #13virgiman_dupNov 18, 2008 17:24:47 | This is my first post on this forum ever, Hi everyone. I've been talking with Ishan about the Witch Hunter Paragon Path, and I agree almost completely that it should be based on a Ranger Heroic Tier core class. About the crossbow vs flintlock vs guns issue, I'm sure it will be solved. |
| #14ishan_whNov 20, 2008 14:20:38 | Well after "talking" with some people over the questions and answers threads of 4E in general, the Ranger is the best choice for the Witch Hunter paragon path since its range powers can be used for the crossbow/ flintlock gun as well. So we got that aspect covered so far, and there is some especulation that the Quick Draw feat might make the reloading more quick, I think reducing the action time, again I´m not much of rules guy myself in the case of making new powers I can give ideas as to how the power works but I´m blind as a bat if that power is too powerful or too lame. lol Thanks people... |
| #15The_JesterNov 21, 2008 11:52:23 | I did a 4e update of Ravenloft (found on the Fraternity of Shadows website). For the Witch Hunter I gave it the name change of Monster Hunter and made it a martial power paragon path. This opens it up to rangers & rogues (the classic crossbow stakers) but also warlords and the like. Here's the rest: Monster Hunter “It is my chosen prey: I have read libraries dedicated to their abilities and the hunt. I am a master of their death.” Prerequisite: Martial power source, training in one knowledge skill A single foe haunts you, driving you to focus on this single threat above all others. While skilled in the hunt, you are a master when it comes to this threat. Monster Hunter Features Enmity (11th level): Choose one of the following origins: aberrant, elemental, fey, immortal, natural, or shadow. When you use an action point to take a second action and face a creature of this origin, roll your attack twice and use the higher result. Knowledgeable (11th level): You gain a +2 bonus to Perception, Insight and Monster Knowledge skill checks against your enmity origin. Hunted (16th level): Choose one of the following keywords: angel, aquatic, construct, demon, devil, ooze, plant, spider, shapechanger, or undead. You deal extra damage equal to your level plus your Intelligence modifier against creatures of the chosen type. Monster Hunter Exploits Precision Strike Monster Hunter Attack 11 Through experience you know where to hit. Encounter * Martial, Weapon Standard action Melee weapon Target: One creature Attack: Strength +2 vs Reflex Hit: 2[W] + Strength. Special: If the target is of your enmity origin the attack ignores resistance and the target cannot regenerate on its next turn. Familiar Resistance Monster Hunter Utility 12 You know how to avoid the worst. Daily * Martial Immediate Reaction Personal Trigger: You suffer an effect that a saving throw will end. Effect: You make an immediate saving throw with a +5 power bonus. Special: If the triggering effect was inflicted by a creature of your enmity origin, you gain a +2 power bonus to all defences until the end your next turn. Favoured Foe Monster Hunter Attack 20 You know how to hurt them the most. Daily * Martial Standard action Melee weapon Target: One creature Attack: Strength vs AC Hit: 4[W] + Strength modifier Miss: Half damage. Special: If the target is of your enmity origin you deal an extra 1[W] damage. If the target has your hunted keyword you deal an extra 1[W] damage. This bonus damage stacks if both apply. |
| #16ishan_whNov 22, 2008 14:22:58 | I did a 4e update of Ravenloft (found on the Fraternity of Shadows website). For the Witch Hunter I gave it the name change of Monster Hunter and made it a martial power paragon path. Wow! The_Jester your my best friend now lol hahaha thanks brother this is what I was trying to get at. But how about this power "Precision Strike Monster Hunter Attack" it can also be applied to range attack using dex right. I think your paragon path is really good brother. Lets see what else we can come up with hehehe |
| #17The_JesterNov 22, 2008 17:47:23 | Wow! That is a very, very good idea. It should be melee OR ranged and str OR dex. That is totally being changed for the next revision. |
| #18ishan_whNov 23, 2008 18:44:21 | That is a very, very good idea. It should be melee OR ranged and str OR dex. That is totally being changed for the next revision. I also forget to add one more thing/ idea, we seem to have been missing, using your Monster Hunter I recalled that the basic power of a Witch Hunter is the "useful" Turn Undead. I don´t know if any of the multiclassing feats might allow the Ranger to be able to use this ability (Turn Undead) or It can be included in the Paragon Path features. Ideas....? Thanks |
| #19Luis_CarlosNov 25, 2008 9:44:44 | It´s a great picture, Ishan wh. My idea of witch hunter is a warrior with some guns and torchs who is protected by his faith againts mind-affecting effects from enemy spellcasters. Does anybody know "Solomon Kane"? The perfect witch hunter!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
| #20ishan_whDec 04, 2008 10:44:02 | Hey people sorry I have been busy lately, this days are tough, holidays and all... well how is our search for the Witch Hunter going, I think that we are forgeting of the Turn Undead, wich leads me to my next doubt, can the cleric multiclass feats allow a ranger/witch hunter to have access to the turn undead power. Let me know on this subject, Thank you all who have supported this thread. PS: I´ll be posting a short tale on the thread of doveloft, as my way to support the idea of that thread. Hope you can check it out. |
