| #2vebrandssonJan 19, 2009 20:22:24 | Well besides the fact that it isn't really a race I would have to agree. |
| #3GreenKnightJan 20, 2009 7:35:24 | Yep, it's very cool. I love all the Heroic Tier Feats. Vampire Alacrity (unlike Fleet-Footed, which I also really like, you can take this right at 1st level), Night's Sight (awesome for a Human Dhampyr), and Mist Form are all great. Especially Mist Form. Only once per day, but it's got Sustain Minor, so you can stay in that form for a good long while, all the while being insubstantial and having a Fly speed of 8. Now that's pretty slick. I'm already picturing myself using it to get out of a tight spot in a dungeon. Trapped WAY behind enemy lines? Is it doubtful I'd make it back out of there alive? Just go Mist Form and swoosh my way out without any trouble. :D When it comes to Ravenloft, I'm imagining misting straight out of Castle Ravenloft and laughing at Strahd all the way. As for Paragon Tier, I REALLY like Dominating Gaze. It's awesome. For one, we're not talking about a one-round domination. It lasts until the target makes a saving throw. And even once it runs out, the target's still Dazed, and THAT lasts until they make yet another saving throw. Fanfreakingtastic. To top it off, even if you miss, you still score the Dazed effect, and it's only a Minor Action to use. One of my favorite things, though, is how it adds 100 years to your characters lifespan. I'm already picturing creating a human character for LFR (assuming it's allowed in LFR) who's been alive since before the Spellplague. Whatever the case, I'm really looking forward to playing a Dhampyr. Although I'm a bit confused by that Savage Bite feat. What exactly does it do? |
| #4Cyber-DaveJan 20, 2009 16:01:38 | Yep, it's very cool. 1) Be careful how much you laugh at Strahd... when you are insubstantial in 4e creatures can still attack you. You still take 1/2 damage from all attacks. 2) Savage bite is worded really poorly. It either means that you can bite any creature that you have combat advantage against without having to grab them first, or it means that you can always bite any creature without having to grab them, and you gain combat advantage against any creature while biting them. I have a feeling its the former rather than the latter. |

Well, better to learn that, now, then after I try it. Who needs to see that sickening smirk of satisfaction on the face of the DM when he knows that I've made a huge blunder that he's about to capitalize on? ;) 2) Savage bite is worded really poorly. I have a feeling its the former rather than the latter. Well, either one of those choices sounds good. The only question is, do I have to use a Standard Action to initiate a Grab if the target I want to use Blood Drain on is unconscious? Just wondering, as I'm looking forward to seeing the look of horror on another party members face when they realize I'm about to use Blood Drain on their unconscious PC. ![]() |

Just go Mist Form and swoosh my way out without any trouble. It only lasts 5 minutes at the most, since it doesn't specify that it can be sustained longer (page 278, PHB). And Dave already pointed out that you can still be attacked (and stunned, dazed, etc.). Although I'm a bit confused by that Savage Bite feat. What exactly does it do? The corrected version allows you to use blood drain on a target that grants you combat advantage, rather than having to grab them first. It makes it mirror the vampire blood drain (though vampires can't use it against grabbed targets, by RAW). |
