I wanted to try and incorporate into it the Maze of Screaming Silence module. My thoughts to incorporate it were as follows: -In the Maze module, the City of the Damned has, on its outskirts, the House of Worms, in which there was an evil vampire. Over many geneartions clerics and paladins would occasionally come to vanquish him, though always fail. -My idea was to have had a paladin, ages ago, from the area of Barovia, have travelled with the Holy Amulet of Ravenkind to defeat the vampire, both slaying each other in the process. -The PC's then having to travel to that area in order to search for and retrieve the item as part of the Castle Ravenloft quest. The other idea I had was in having the Maze module first. PC's would play through that relatively short module, in the end guiding the refugees from the area over the mountains and to a remote village where they can settle. Then the Castle Ravenloft module would pick up with the note from the burgomaster being delivered to them in that town. Do either of these sound reasonable or interesting? Thanks in advance! |

He could send a herald to them claiming that he is the rightful owner of the amulet and he had heard that they had liberated it from the maze. He'd like to reward them for it's return and invites him to his castle. Show then of course, Danovich throws a monkey wrench into his plans by re-animating his son and causing that huge plague, giving the PCs a chance to formulate an opinion about Strahd based on their interaction with the terrified villagers and so on |

I like that idea, where it could start of with them retrieving or being awarded an 'unknown amulet' at the maze and being contacted by Strahd. The only difficulty I foresee is my players, metagaming, would never view Strahd as anything but an evil force to be destroyed, despite any offers or protestations of friendship on his part. Though he could certainly contact them in trying to acquire it through a fraudulent letter or offer, I suppose. I could perhaps also drop some tidbits of info like the remains of the paladin in the Maze module bearing the sign of a Knight of the Raven on his armor that the PC's might recognize or have vague knowledge of. |
