Should there be an official site for Ravenloft?

Now the Ravenloft licence has expired, I wonder if it is time for WotC to offer to give one of the Ravenloft fan websites "official Ravenloft site" status again. Ravenloft had an official site before, but the people in charge gave up running it. I personally think that all the out of print settings should have their own official sites.

EDIT: Actually, I don't think it would hurt for in print settings to have an official site too. With the new "one setting per year" policy, WotC are not going to able to create as much ongoing content as they did in the past. Websites like Canonfire! and Candlekeep can provide a bit of "value added content" for WotC customers with no cost to the company itself. (WotC could probably even give the official sites exclusive previews of the new 4e material for the settings they support.)

I would guess that Fraternity of Shadows would be the best website to take the job. Does anyone else know of any good Ravenloft websites that could give FoS a run for their money?

A nice idea but it does not look like WotC is doing the "Official Fansite" thing anymore.
They brought back the old board layout, probably from stored files, so it still lists the other official sites here:

But they haven't added any new ones. The people originally in charge of that policy left the company a long, long time ago and I don't think WotC likes sending people elsewhere for their products.

Personally I feel that the FOS is heir to the Kargatane. In fact I personally consider it the official home of Ravenloft. Anything that WoTC could come up with would be the fan site, in my opinion. I've been lurking there for years and the Fraternity members are an exceptional group of creative minds, who've put out more quality work than is decent for fanmade material.

There were alot of cool sites back in the day, but most of them aren't maintained. I still find the Mordent Cartographic Society to be a highly useful site, even though it hasn't been touched in years.

That was what I was thinking when I posted this thread. Kargatane has given up doing the job, and FoS seems to be the website that the fans are most attached to.

IIRC, someone told me that last time around the fans voted on the official fansites. So FoS would probably win if there was enough demand for an official Ravenloft site and WotC were willing to have a vote.

Has anyone got archived copies of the dead RL websites? I know that Dragonlance Nexus archives dead Dragonlance websites and Beyond the Moons has some dead Spelljammer websites. It would be good for dead Ravenloft websites to come back from the grave.

FOS has a list of other fan sites, many of those are quite dead. Personally, I think FOS really is the best place to go, and really is the new home of ravenloft.

(also, if anyone hasn't checked it out yet, the NocturnalSeaGazetteer is out at FOS, and it is fantastic. Thank you once again FOS for a quality product:D )

While I'd love to see an official Ravenloft site, when I want to know something about Ravenloft, I just go to FOS anyway. For Ravenloft, I trust the fan community more than the official company that may or may not support the product line in 4e...

Well, the bottom line is: would you back a call for FoS to be given the "Official Ravenloft Site" title?

Everyone seems to think FoS is the best fansite, but should they get official status?

I saw someone mention it over at The Piazza and downloaded it. I've only skimmed through so far, but am very very impressed with the level of detail in this. What with this and the recent Adlatum Campaign Setting download from the Dragonlance community, I'm really amazed at what can be turned out by fans these days.
