Any details, hints, rumors, whatever as to the format the Championship is taking this year at GenCon? I've heard it's going to be somewhat...different from past events from a conversation with Chris Tulach at Comiccon earlier this year, but I'm wondering if anything's been decided or firmed up.

I know it's going to be Eberron based - and I'm *fairly* certain that it was hinted that parties would be making their own characters.

I'm assuming that most of the other changes are on the back end due to some heavy complaints from last year about varying levels of DM Experience, as well as DM Preparation.

My personal speculation is that the championship this year will include some form of pre-printed maps or dungeon tiles to help with speeding encounters along.

My conversation with Chris @ Comiccon mentioned the following things:

1) That there would be preprinted maps (not sure about minis, I don't recall) for the GMs to use.

2) That they were seriously considering bring-your-own characters, but that the biggest hurdles were (A) figuring out what sources would be allowed (inasmuch as, for example, FRPG drow might not be allowed, or that the fact that while Martial, Arcane & Divine Power might be out, Primal wouldn't be; and the allowability of various Dragon magazine stuff might be iffy, etcetera), and concomitantly (B) whether or not it would be possible to make sure all these rules were observed, the characters reviewed for fairness, etcetera in the time allotted to the Championship. It's an awesome idea, but a logistical nightmare; while Ultimate Dungeon Delve is a bit "looser" in this area (the "stakes" aren't as high), the Championship is a different thing. I suspect the difficulties of UDD at Origins might be a bellwether for the decision as to whether it'd be possible to do that in the Championship.

----------

That being said, anyone have any idea about the levels involved? Or anything else?

The new Players Creation Guide 1.9 has been posted and it has official details about the championship play.

Short list...Your party creates their own characters, level 2. If you make it to the next round you should have a level 3 version prepared....and if you make it to the final round, you should have a level 4 version prepared.
