| #1malkonnenDec 11, 2008 10:20:12 | Hey guys, My friends and I signed up for D&DXP, which will be our first D&D convention. We already found out the hard way that most of the LFR games were off limits since none of us have ever played in an LFR game and thus didn't have high enough leveled LFR characters. But fortunately the Convention Special doesn't require 'organically' leveled characters, so we signed up for that one. Now, we're making characters and the question has come up of whether stuff from the FRPG is legal since it's not a Forgotten Realms game. It's never been clear to me whether feats, etc. which are presented in a setting specific book are restricted to that campaign or if only stuff tied to that setting's gods, locales, and NPCs are restricted. In other words the Paragon feat War Wizardry, which AFAIK isn't tied to any particular god, location, or organization exclusive to Forgotten Realms, is something that the wizard and warlock (who's multiclassing in wizard) would LOVE to take, but we don't know if it's a legal option. Does anyone know what the ruling on this kind of thing is? Thanks in advance, Malk |

So, anything from the FRPG except the spellscarred stuff and the character backgrounds are legal for use in generic RPGA events. |

| #4WavesterDec 15, 2008 9:35:50 | If the pattern holds the same for Beyond the Door as it did for Moathouse, you will see an appendix for this adventure in the January Character Creation Guide update. John is correct. When the CCG updates in January it will have a short appendix on characters for this event. I would expect almost nothing to be limited. |
| #5JohnduBoisJan 12, 2009 20:00:10 | I have a different question regarding this adventure: The blurb suggests that those of us who use the Character Builder will get a "special prize" at the table. Is there an anticipated date for when levels 4-15 of the Character Builder will actually be available? |
| #6WavesterJan 12, 2009 20:39:02 | I have a different question regarding this adventure: The blurb on the Wotc website is incorrect. The one on the convention website at http://ddxp.baldmangames.com is correct. There is not reward or bonus for building a character for this event using the Character Builder. and no I don't know when 4-15 will be available in that system. Thanks |
| #7WolfStar76Jan 13, 2009 5:55:59 | Recent posts in the DDI forum indicate that the full builder will release at the end of the month. I suspect it will either be the day before DDXP (when we're all traveling) or the first day of DDXP (when we're all already at the show). Because, y'know, Murphy's Law. ![]() |
| #8JohnduBoisJan 13, 2009 6:16:17 | Well, yeah, but now that there's no free stuff for Character Builder usage, I can just use HeroForge (although I like Character Builder much better). |
| #9kinevonJan 13, 2009 8:03:52 | Well, yeah, but now that there's no free stuff for Character Builder usage, I can just use HeroForge (although I like Character Builder much better). Huh? HeroForge 4 is not even out for beta test yet? |

| #11spawnofmorgothJan 14, 2009 18:11:07 | OK. when they did they pull the prize language from the event description? Will they offer the event free for pulling this rather rude bait and switch? They should at least offer full-refunds to pre-registered folks. Any why the change anyway? I thought it was a good marketing to ploy to get some more DDI subscriptions sold before DDX. I thought it was a sound idea. What happened? |
| #12WolfStar76Jan 14, 2009 19:22:12 | OK. when they did they pull the prize language from the event description? I'd guess it was changed because the Character Builder still isn't available. If it had released, say, a month before the show it may have been more viable as an option. Now people would (likely) just feel rushed to toss together a character. Another possible option is that it may have been something that was in the RPGA event description before they licensed out DDXP to baldmangames. That would explain why the BaldManGames website had one (correct) description and the RPGA site had another. I don't forsee the even going free because of it, however. You still get to play in the module, and the tickets for the special are the same cost as any other event. If they had cost a little extra I might side with you enough to suggest requesting a refund of the cost difference. As it is, you don't get any extra "bonus" - no harm, no foul. If it really means a huge difference to you, you might try politely asking Dave if he has anything to hand out once you're at the show. I don't know what will/won't be in his power, but if approached reasonably, he's usually reasonable in kind. Customer Service and all that. ![]() |
| #13Dragon9Jan 15, 2009 14:38:51 | The DDI news has stated that the Character Builder on the free side will be a demo. Not sure on how many levels it will do, but what was said was that it will have magic items from level 1-8 and all the heroic tier feats (which be all it has right now... i haven't looked through it to determine). It may stay for levels 1-3 only. I guess we'll see. |

| #15spawnofmorgothJan 19, 2009 14:35:18 | Character levels 1-3, but you can equip them with items up to 5 past that (level 8 magic items). As far as the level 30 proggy for subscribers goes, I am sure they can release a build before the end of the month. In a pinch they can release the build the staff is kicking around now... but I suppose they are trying for one more round of bug patching before doing the subscriber update. They have promised before the end of the month and I am certain they will make the new build available before then. Anywho, back to the OP topic... They still haven't changed the language of the post at http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/news/20081112 . As I will not be leaving until after my kid gets outta school on Friday, I might get our characters printed out if the builder gets posted before then. If there really are no prizes to be handed out they really should have edited/retracted this announcement from November. |
| #16WolfStar76Jan 20, 2009 11:40:35 | Additional change - the special has been changed from 15th level characters, to 18th. I'll be making a new thread about this, and posting in the DDXP thread as well to spread the word as much as possible. |
