Hey everyone!

News just hit the Dave's Shows list that GenCon judge signups are now live. I'll just quote "The Bald Man" himself:

Also. please note - if you are judging four or more slots and want a free bage it is critically important that you supply Dave with your GenCon account number.

Because GenCon is using a new registration system (RUBI) your number is not the same as it was in years past. You will need to re-register with RUBI and get your new account number - available on the top-right corner of most RUBI pages.

Dave needs this to get your badge created/credited in the system - so it is to your advantage to do this right the first time.

I was able to sign up just now, so the system seems to be up.

I am willing to run slot 0s of CORE1-14 online (or even on Weds before the show) for those that will be judging it at the show, so don't be shy about requesting it if you feel capable of judging at the Paragon tier. I will work hard to make sure you get to play before the show.

I have tried a couple of times now to sign up to DM at GenCon. It gives me an error after I try to submit. I'd appreciate any help with this I could get.
Thanks.

If you cannot get the form at http://gencon.baldmangames.com to work then please just send the information the form is requesting to webmaster@baldmangames.com and I will take it from there.

Badge Update

Dave has informed me that the first round of badges for judges was submit last week. Alas, it seems the person who is in charge of fulfilling those requests was on vacation when the request was submit.

Dave is going to follow-up with GenCon and see if he can't do something about getting our badges turned on sooner rather than later.

Thanks for being so patient, everyone.

GenCon Pre-reg may be closed, but it's not too late to signup to be an RPGA judge!

Speaking with Dave at Origins, it sounds like there's still room for ~30 judges - and that still includes hotel room space for 7+ slot judges.

Free books, free badge, free room! And all for playing D&D a few days (while earning DM Rewards points no less!).

If this is something that you're interested in, please signup at http://gencon.baldmangames.com.

Hi!

I'd really like to run a game of LFR at Gencon. However, I'm french canadian and while my english is quite good, I'm not sure that I could entertain a game in english for four hours with only english speaking players. My accent will probably be anoying on the long run (unless I put on an Eladrin disguise and pretend that I'm "in character" ;) ) and I will probably find myself in a situation where I'm looking for the right word in english for what I want to say, and I think this will probably break the atmosphere.

Could I run a game in french? I know that there are some players from Quebec City and Montreal that are going to Gencon (about 20 I think). I could promote my game on french forums so that french speaking players will know that there is a french game available.

Is that a good idea? If not, is there another way to play with my friends in a french speaking game?

Thanks!

The best way to "dip your toe" into judging at GenCon would be to show up for our evening slots (starting at 7PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).

Those slots are specifically earmarked as slots that will feature "Open Play" - DMs can bring an LFR module (or two) that they're familiar with and would like to run. Players looking for a game can then self-muster with those GMs, and we'll get your group seated.

This gives you the opportunity to test your judging, as well as how players might take to your accent (or even if there are a good amount of French-speaking players to fill a table) without committing to run "x" number of tables in advance.

If you find it's not a problem in the long run, then we'll be happy to have you volunteer again at future shows.

If you DO want to try your hand at running a scheduled selection of tables, I'd suggest you contact webmaster@baldmangames.com to discuss your options with Dave (the organizer/Senior GM for most large conventions).

Hope that helps!

Thank you for this information!

I'll think about it and contact Dave if need be.

Thanks again!

What makes you think players mind the accent? I am Dutch, and I am sure my accent is terrible at times, but I have never had complaints. You might need to repeat yourself on occassion, but native English speakers can be just as difficult to understand and it is all part of the game.

Yeah, it's real hard to understand folks who speak Hollandaise.

One of our local players/DM's who went back home to France used to run games with his (strong) French accent.. I cannot play Agla 1-1 without bugging the DM that the fairies should have french accents, since that's how it was the first time I met them.

oddly enough in this case, it's the non-french doing the ruining!
