How to select RPGA offerings at a convention?

Hey all,
I'm trying to get an event schedule finalized for an upcoming convention, and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how to select which adventures to run at a small convention?

Paige/Scorpienne always has good ideas on this.

I would be cautious around too many competitive events, such as SPEC + ADCP1 + delves. It creates a different feel and can come off as anti-RP.

I like ADCP1 because it is a good mod, fits all tiers of play (without requiring much author prep), is public-only, and could be tied to a result (best table gets free admission next year).

I always like to see the newest mod in the region, plus any others in the story track or for the next lower tier. This tends to bring in both newer and older players.

I like trying to have a few story arcs, especially if they can be played in similar tiers (1-4, 1-4, 4-6). Otherwise or in addition, I like having mods in a few regions to give a feeling of setting and to influence how players pick mods. You could have a TYMA track, a CORE track, etc.

An open slot, such as the last slot on Sunday, can be a fun way to encourage locals to bring MYREs or their favorite mods. A printer and all the mods makes this happen. You can use a Yahoo group to facilitate some tables this way, plus have some judges ready to run their choice of mods in case players lack ideas.

I am seeing a lot of walk-ons and new/casual players, so low-level is best. Having a CB station is an option, but I would just print out some pregens of each role that are interesting but simple.

Alpha's got good suggestions.  I definitely like the idea of offering related modules (by region, and/or by story arc).

I'd make sure I had at least one 1-4 offering in every slot, to ensure that new players are able to play in each slot.

Having the most recent modules available should help attract the more avid players.

And, definitely, have some way that new players can get playing if they don't bring a character with them.

I'm already planning to offer MINI1-1 through MINI1-3, so I think I have the new players addressed (although I think I'm going to shuffle the schedule a little so they can play all three sequentially as suggested by Skerrit). I'm more concerned about trying to offer adventures that will interest players of different tiers without making the convention less accessible to players that have either played a lot or haven't played very much. For example, I know that I would be less inclined to attend a con that didn't include some new paragon-tier adventures, but I also know that as someone who travels to all the big cons and playtests many of the higher-tier adventures, I fall into a very small percentage of LFR players...

I recommend offering ADCP up for play, as it is only available as public play (WPN play).

For your higher tier modules try running a few adventures that start major quests, or that finish major quests. CORE 1-4, CORE1-7, CORE1-10, CORE1-12 are all fun modules.
