How many slots of LFR will be running each day at Gen Con? 3? 4?

Also, anyone planning on running any Wednesday night LFR at Gen Con?

Chad

GenCon is typically 3 slots of RPGA play/day.

I suspect it might be a little soon to start looking for Wednesday Night games as judge signups aren't even available yet.

Then again, there's always SOMEONE running Wed night games. . .

Basically, play that occurs after the normal con hours end. As the convention center itself closes up during overnight hours, midnight madness games are often in someone's hotel room, or other location.

Maybe so. I know that, in the past, security guards would kick us out of the RPGA hall at 11pm.

I keep telling myself I'm getting too old for that, too...but, I keep winding up at the RAM until the wee hours... :D

Any word on how many and what kind of LFR events we are looking at for Gen Con? Will all the offered adventures be new? How many for paragon level characters? Any details on the "Quest" adventure(s) or adventures specifically for adventuring companies? Any interactives of any sort? Details, details, detail. If details aren't available, any ideas when they will be?

As event registration is supposed to go live in a couple of weeks (Sunday, April 19th, the last I heard), I'd imagine that we'll see the LFR line-up within the next week or two.

The last two or three years Gen Con has supported some type of Midnight Madness. Recently it has been around-the-clock game space. You just work on one of the Yahoo groups which tend to creep up prior to the con and find a table and a judge.

The basic concept is to fit in more gaming than you otherwise could, stretching the 3-4 day slots (depending on gaming systems you play) to 4-6 slots per day. It is impressive to come out of a con with several new levels on each of your PCs. I suggest lots of sleep before the con and pre-printing your character sheets and power cards if you will go that route.

If you are planning on playing lots of LFR at Gen Con (and are new to cons), I would strongly echo Alphastream's suggestion to level your character up in advance. I did that prior to D&D EXperience where my primary character went from 4th to 9th level. It made it easie to transition easily from oone table to teh next. The only thin of substance that you really could not predict was which items you might find, but those are easily enough inked in.

I seem to recall that Midnight Madness was *not* supported at GenCon this year - or at least, it wasn't on Saturday night. I'm not completely certain why.

That's how it worked at DDXP last month. At Gencon, however, the Special went from 7:00 PM to 4:00 AM. I know, I ran one that late.

It may just be my ineptitude with Excel but I can't seem to find any RPGA or LFR or WotC Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition games available on the GenCon Event schedule download. Can anyone help me out?

Edit: Found this on Derek Guder's GenCon Blog:
Wizards of the Coast's events will be added soon, as they're still tweaking their schedule a bit. So before you get too worried, yes, there will RPGA events, Virginia. They're just not in the system yet. Give them a few days to get them in before you start getting worried

While LFR/RPGA/WotC events aren't on the calendar yet, those interested in pre-planning their GenCon experience might like the links to the current event schedule.

You can get those here:
CSV format: http://community.gencon.com/files/folders/pmcompletecatalogs/entry220246.aspx
Excel format: http://community.gencon.com/files/folders/pmcompletecatalogs/entry220034.aspx

Please note these currently contain the following in the notes on their page:
. . .Some companies have not submitted their full schedule yet either - for example, Wizards of the Coast events are not in the catalog yet, but they will be attending with their expected range of events for the RPGA, Magic, etc...

Apparently someone in the GenCon community has made an offline catalog program to help view the events - I haven't tried it yet, but the reviews in the thread seem to be pretty good. Feel free to give it a shot. http://community.gencon.com/forums/t/19518.aspx?PageIndex=1

Busy busy busy

So some Gencon RPGA updates. All events are into Gencon and going through their approval process. Next update should have them all in the various spreadsheets for everybody to view.

If you have multiple characters there is more LFR on the schedule then you can actually play at the show.

There are 3 adventures that support 11-14 play.

There are LFR Open Play slots in the last slot every day (play any one-round adventure that is available from the library).

There will be Midnight LFR Madness each night (Fri-Sun - 12am-5am) as well.

Everything on the schedule is a new LFR event (other then the Open slots of course)

I think that answers all the questions I saw. Wait - the RPGA Hall will be open 24 hours a day from 7am Thursday morning till 2pm Sunday afternoon.

Events are up (April 15th update).

I've copied the LFR events below, ordered by level. Looks like three opportunities for 11-14 play, and a good breadth for other levels (plus open play). I like the balance, actually, especially since two could be replayed at different tiers for those wanting to do so.

CORE1-13 The Fate of Camp 15
Your travels have brought you to the pearl-trading city of Ankhapur, near the Lake of Steam. You have been asked to visit a nearby outpost and pick up a shipment of pearls. It seems like easy money. Unfortunately, something has killed off most of the divers and nearly shut down the operation. Now you must discover the source of this camp's troubles before you share its fate. A Living Forgotten Realms adventure for characters levels 1-4.

ADCP1-1 Jungle Hunt
A great hunt has been called in the jungles of Chult. The Amnian trading costers of Port Nyranzaru are competing to see which one can bring in the biggest, rarest beasts as trophies, and they’re looking for adventuring companies to do the hunting. A LFR adventure for levels 1-14. At least 4 in the party must be from the same Adventuring Company, and all of the characters at the table must be within a single level band (1-4, 4-7, 7-10, or 11-14).
(Teos comments: First special adventuring company adventure... I bet ACs could fill their rosters at Gen Con)

SPEC1-3 Ghosts of the Past
Every year coronal Ilsevele Miritar, ruler of Myth Drannor, hires a group of adventurers to cleanup one of the many dangerous ruins within her forest kingdom. This year she is looking for several groups.A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in Myth Drannor for characters levels 1-14. There are four versions of this adventure, one for each level band. Characters at the same table must be within a single level band (1-4, 4-7, 7-10, or 11-14).
(Teos comments: [Edit] Several authors for each level band. I know one of the authors, a board regular. I expect good stuff here!)

MINI1-1 Stirring the Embers
All is not well in the Great Port of Tarmulune and no one speaks of it. People are disappearing toward some fell purpose, and you are next. A two-round Living Forgotten Realms adventure that is Part 1 of the Embers of Dawn mini-campaign, set in Tarmulune for characters levels 1-4. Events that start at 7pm will end at midnight and start again at 8am the following morning.
(Teos comments: No info on this yet beyond the vague announcement that there would be something. It will be interesting to see how this differs from the adaptables we've seen)

IMPI1-5 Demon Hunting
Rumor has it that demon hunting brings rich rewards in the city of Lyrabar. When unforeseen events befall the PCs, will they become hunters - or hunted? A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in Impiltur for characters levels 4-7.

LURU1-5 Beyond the Wild Frontier
The North is populated with many peoples, amongst them the savage and noble Uthgardt barbarians: The balance of power is fragile in the wilderness; is it about to change? A Living Forgotten Realms adventure set in Luraur for characters levels 7-10.

CORE1-14 What Storms May Come
Darkness and light struggle and heroes are once again drawn to unravel the secret of the radiant vessel. Can the truth be determined and the machinations of Szass Tam put to an end? This adventure is the conclusion of the "Radiance Against Thay"

Each part is written by a different author. Letting one author write four full adventures is a bit much for a single person ;) [And yes, each part is practically a different adventure.]

If I recall the R&D Seminar correctly from DDXP, Eberron will not have a Living Campaign. This year's D&D Open is supposed to be set in Eberron. There will be a campaign guide, Players Guide and a series of adventures published by WOTC. I think they also said we would see some Eberron stuff in Dungeon & Dragon.

On a personal note, I think they will probably use the Eberron Players Guide to flesh out the Warforged (no pun intended). Whether or not any extra material would be available to Warforged in LFR, I can't speculate.

I am really looking forward to running events at gencon this year. Plus, this gives me an idea of what kind of events I can run at my own convention in October.

Does this mean I could play the same character in Spec1-3 (and ADCP1-1) but at a different level band?
For example I've got a 4th level character. Could I play that character at level 4 in SPEC1-3 [in the 1-4 level band version] and then again when he's level 5 [in the 4-7 level band version]?

Look for an announcement in May on the Wizards website regarding the mini-campaign.

The adventuring company event still counts like a regular adventure, and while you can play it more than once, it has to be with a different character each time.

For SPEC1-3, there are effectively 4 different adventures. Therefore the same PC could play in all 4 tiers of the adventure, assuming the PC meets the level requirement.

Descent into Vile Darkness is the D&D Delve event and will use pre-gens.

Fall of the Tower at Windrock is the Ultimate Delve which you can make your own characters for but pretty sure it will also have pre-gens for those that do not.

The 2009 D&D Championship is make your own characters as well (though once again I believe we'll have pre-gens for those that do not bring one).

All others you nee to have your own character for (and proper level and paperwork for LFR)

Last year at Gen Con, I had pretty good luck with getting into events with generic tickets. That said, it was by no means a perfect success. I found that there was not always a spot at the given LFR event that I wanted to play, but I could always find a LFR event.

In years past - it hasn't been unheard of for the RPGA to add tables based on demand AND the size of the judge pool.

As others have suggested - Generic Tickets, while not a guarantee, are accommodated to the best of the RPGA's ability on-site.

Just drop in at registration periodically to see if they have extra tickets. The con is fluid and people switch slots all the time. Even with generics, I had good luck (though really close calls) last year with getting what I wanted when I wanted it.
