| #1fearlesskitty_dupJul 01, 2008 12:01:59 | When does the Herald Level test roll over to 4th edition material? I sold my 3.5 books. I have very distinct feelings about this. ![]() |
| #2wotc_ianJul 01, 2008 18:00:56 | When does the Herald Level test roll over to 4th edition material? Very soon. We wanted to ensure everyone had a few weeks to get their books, read them and become familiar with the new rules. The test is written and being fine tuned as I write and will be deployed as soon as we've finished. Please note that as soon as the test goes live the old test will be switched off. Ian |
| #3WolfStar76Jul 02, 2008 6:44:13 | Are those of us that are already certified GMs able to take the 4E test? I know we don't have to re-certify, but I know I, for one, would like to take the new test(s) just to see where I need to hone my skills. Am I risking my existing certification(s) if I'm able to retest at all? |
| #4HerrbardJul 02, 2008 7:38:30 | Are those of us that are already certified GMs able to take the 4E test? Me too, what he said. ;) |
| #5mystaraJul 02, 2008 10:23:42 | Will there be any questions relating to stealth? ![]() (Please..."no") |
| #6wotc_ianJul 02, 2008 12:32:48 | Note to self: Add more 'Stealth questions' ;) I'll double check that it's not going to restrict you as it sees you've already passed a Herald test. Other than that taking the test and failing won't reset your level to zero honest ;) Going forward here's how I intend things to work. As questions get retired (currently planned to be every 12 months) they will go to a 'Practice Test', which anyone can take just to... well... practice ![]() This has no checks or balances and just creates a 20-question test from the retired pool. Obviously this isn't something we will have at the start BUT maybe it's something I should look at more. NOTE: All Herald and above RPGA DMs can submit questions for inclusion in future tests. These can be submitted through the Judge Center where you take the test. Benefits are also explained there. Each question is also credited to the writer if approved and we have a body of approvers so it's reasonably fast. Ian |
| #7WolfStar76Jul 02, 2008 17:05:27 | Note to self: Add more 'Stealth questions' ;) Let's hope that means there's some errata coming to answer the myriad questions about how, how often, and what it REALLY means to stealth in combat. I'll double check that it's not going to restrict you as it sees you've already passed a Herald test. Other than that taking the test and failing won't reset your level to zero ![]() Going forward here's how I intend things to work. As questions get retired (currently planned to be every 12 months) they will go to a 'Practice Test', which anyone can take just to... well... practice Nice, practice tests are always a good thing. Each question is also credited to the writer if approved and we have a body of approvers so it's reasonably fast. Nice, I'll have to see if there's something I can come up with for the test. |
| #8freeclintJul 02, 2008 17:30:37 | Any word on a Star Wars gamemaster test? |
| #9mystaraJul 03, 2008 13:46:51 | Ugh, I have actually *dreamt* about adjudicating the stealth rule. See what you've done to me! :P So if I understand correctly, having already passed the herald test, I'll be considered a 3e and 4e GM? Seems to make sense, being open book it seems to be more a test of "can you read the book correctly" rather than "do you know the rules by heart" which I quite liked ![]() |
| #10Lord_DarquainJul 03, 2008 14:37:39 | Also, a Star Wars Helard Test would be very nice for GMs wanting to run sanctioned SW Games but not wanting to buy and learn a different ruleset to do so. |
| #11WolfStar76Jul 03, 2008 15:44:31 | Also, a Star Wars Helard Test would be very nice for GMs wanting to run sanctioned Sw Games but not wanting to buy a learn a different ruleset to do so. At DDXP Chris Tulach said there would be a SW test. I don't know what the STATUS is, but it is/was planned. |
| #12jgermanJul 03, 2008 16:06:12 | Very soon. We wanted to ensure everyone had a few weeks to get their books, read them and become familiar with the new rules. The test is written and being fine tuned as I write and will be deployed as soon as we've finished. Awesome, I just got an auto email saying my personal information with DCI has changed so I'm hoping that means I'll be getting a card with a registration number via snail mail soon. I was hoping there would be a 4e version of the test soon-ish. |
| #13zertzJul 03, 2008 19:59:36 | Having recently passed my Herald test so I can run RPGA sanctioned Star Wars games, a Star Wars test would be handy :P. Any chance of Herald level players comfortable with Star Wars being able to submit questions to speed the exam creation on its way? |
| #14herald108Jul 15, 2008 23:59:39 | What about those of us who earned our Heraldry after the 4th ed. release? I'm thinking I'll be required to retake the test. I could easily retake a 4th ed test, but I thought it was funny, most questions being generally obsolete. |
| #15Lord_DarquainJul 16, 2008 1:59:11 | I don't believe they've ever made GMs take new tests when new versions of D&D were released, though after the update you would see 4e questions when taking tests for Master and Grand Master level. |
| #16WolfStar76Jul 16, 2008 6:13:35 | What about those of us who earned our Heraldry after the 4th ed. release? The RPGA assumes that if you've proven your rules knowlege in one version, and you wish to remain active in a new version, that you're already dedicated enough to keep yourself informed of new the rules. As such, if you're a Herald-Level 3.x judge, and want to be active in 4E, you'll keep yourself up-to-date, and won't need to re-test. ![]() |
