Hi, I am a roleplayer from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and an RPGA member.

In my town we currently have a DM who is running the D&D Encounters at an WPN/RPGA Sanctioned venue.

This DM however is also demanding that the players purchase him drinks and snacks as "compensation" for him running the events.

I am wondering how the RPGA viewed this?

While there are no rules that cover that it is kinda crappy for a DM to demand anything imo.

I would talk to the venue hosting the D&D Enc. first. Are they aware of this?  If so then do they really want to be associated with the negative vibe it brings?  If so on both then gonna go out on the limb and say the guy is a friend of the owner or it's a non-gaming store and they don't care as long as he  brings people in.

A store charging a $1 or 2 fee to play is one thing (the space and kits cost money after all) but the DM demanding people buy him stuff is just the wrong way to go about it.

Hey, at least they aren't demanding backrubs!

Seriously, if cash is an issue, you might see if the DM is willing to trade. Maybe you could rotate judges or otherwise curb the cash-for-play syndrome.
