| #1bri_guyJan 01, 2009 16:52:53 | Hi all, I have a group of loyal patrons that are interested in having the store host weekly D&D role-playing games. I currently do MtG, so I'm familiar with the DCI sanctioning system, but the last time I played D&D it was still Version 1, so I doubt I would make a very good DM! I'm looking for any advice on how to go about this. Is there a walk through page that I missed? Thanks! |

For the first, you can put up posters in your store, and talk with some of your customers who you know are into RPG stuff. For the second, you can start by reading the PHB and the first few chapters of the DMG. Then, depending on which direction you want to go is what you do next. Initially, especially if you can't find experienced local GMs willing to help out, start out with the D&D Dungeon Delves. While they are not part of a continuous campaign or anything like that, they are fairly well designed to at least expose you to the combat system. Once you have run a Delve or two, you can consider starting an LFR (Living Forgotten Realms) group. While the modules for the campaign are not delivered to your mailbox, they are readily accessible through the RPGA/DCI Event Sanctioning system, assuming that you have passed either the 3.5E or 4E Herald test. LFR is an ongoing campaign world, where players can play a character again and again, gaining experience gold and magic items as they play modules. Each module is designed to handle a party of 4-6 PCs in a 4 level band. All PCs start at 1st level, pretty much built according to the basic character generation rules in the PHB. Current adventures cover level bands 1-4 and 4-7. I believe that 1Q2009 will see the introduction of the 7-10 level band adventures, so PCs can be played through the entire Heroic tier. NB: A 5th level (or higher) character CANNOT be played in a level band 1-4 adventure, nor can a 3rd level (or lower) character be played in a level band 4-7 adventure. The modules can, as I mentioned above, be ordered from the member area, and are delivered as a ZIP file containing 3 PDF files that can be downloaded and printed. To get the ZIP file after you sanction the event, you would go to your My Events link, and do a search (future events would limit the found items) and click on the event's link. That will bring up a page with the module name and a link to the zip file for each module ordered. Recommended: Each player (especially once you go LFR) have an RPGA or DCI number (both work fine). Players can define multiple PCs in their member page on the RPGA/DCI site. Hope that helps. Sorry to be so verbose! Happy new year! |

As for seeking out GMs, try subscribing to the yahoo group that covers your region. There will be probably a few that would be interested in helping you. |
