In checking my rewards status online, I've got to admit I'm more than a little confused. What's the difference between the following column entries...

1. Total GM Reward Points
2. Current GM Reward Points
3. GM Reward
4. Total GM Reward WPN Points
5. Current GM Reward WPN Points
6. GM Reward WPN

The part throwing me is that there are two rows...1 for current and one for sent. Which means, for the Current row, I have Current "Total GM Reward Points" and Current "Current GM Reward Points.

And whats the distinction between GM Reward and GM Reward WPN? I only DM LFR (No magic or miniatures), so I dont understand how the numbers are different (and yet they are )

Any clarificatio nwould be helpful ...bottom line is I'd like to know how many points I have before the scheduled June/July mailing.

And whats the distinction between GM Reward and GM Reward WPN?

GM Reward is for D&D Private Play
GM Reward WPN is for D&D WPN events (formerly retail, public, game, convention, delves, etc.)

I would hope that they total them up before determining awards, but I doubt that I would get the 4-5 reward kits my points add up to. ;)

The points for private and WPN DMing will be totaled up for Rewards purposes. Doesn't matter how you earn them.

BTW, the first activity reward is very sweet.

Is that the Dungeon Tile boats that were discussed at DDXP?

Yes. I've seen the art and I'm hoping to get my hands on a sample by Origins to show off there.

Is it only one reward earned, no matter how many points you have, as long as you have 5+ points, or is it possible to earn multiple rewards?

Type Current
Total GM Reward Points 13
Current GM Reward Points 8
GM Reward Total 1
GM Reward WPN Points 14
Current GM Reward WPN Points 14
GM Reward WPN 2

22, as my current point total would add up, is 4 "batches" of 5...

Then again, I am running Delves weekly (attendance and health/life events permitting), LFR twice a month, and GMing a table at the WWGDs...

Is the cut off for DMing 5 events to get this reward June 30, 2009?

Yes, the cutoff is June 30.

Yes, you either get 1 reward mailing or 0. If you earn 0, your points short of 5 will carry forward to the next cycle. You cannot earn multiple reward mailings. We are putting significant value into our new DM Reward program, and we don't want folks just harvesting points to sell off on eBay.

And yes, we can easily monitor where we ship rewards, and do shut down strange quantities heading to the same address. So be honest about your reporting.

Everyone that qualifies for the first activity reward will receive 2 copies of the ship tile sheet. I just got my hands on one today, and it is incredibly cool. If you're not signed up for DM Rewards, now is the time. Make sure you get your 5 sessions of DMing in by June 30. I don't want you to miss out on this!

The activity reward (ship tile sheets) will arrive in mailboxes in August.

Looking forward myself since I have been wanting some kind of tiles for ships for years, never even found anything retail that does the job/looks enough like (I'm sure there are, I didn't look that closely).

Not sound greedy but any word on a preview of what the mailing for February (I think it is?) will be?

We are only in the initial design phase of the February reward (we just had the kickoff meeting for it yesterday). We might have more on it at Gen Con Indy.

Chris,

The DM points for this period will be negatively impacted by the difficulty of getting table tracking into the database for the big cons. So far as I know, DDXP 09 has still not been entered, and I don't really expect Origins 09 to be entered promptly, thus missing the Jun 30 cutoff. That would be a shame for hard working DMs to miss out if they should have qualified for the reward.

Hopefully with the changes to the reporting process we'll (finally) be able to get back on track with reporting convention events the slot after they happen at the big shows.

Trust me, those of us in HQ HATE when data entry gets blown up on us. Especially the 1-2 people we have assigned to the task that end up with little to do.

44? wow.

I thought my 20 was already bordering on plays too much, oh wait, I do only run a fraction of what I play lol... guess that works out then.

I must be even worse as my listing is as follows:

Total GM Reward Points 136,
current GM Reward Points 96,
GM Reward 19

under that it has
Batch 19 - 2009-01-21 - Sent - as above 165 65 and 3 respectively
Batch 17 - 2009-04-2 - Sent - as above 113 113 5

Well, I just finished running a group through the Scepter Tower series, plus we run LFR games most Friday nights, on Sunday afternoons, and sometimes on weekday nights or Saturdays, and I do a lot of the DMing. Happily I have gotten several other players to rotate the DMing with me.

But what I was wondering was
I have 136 under Total GM points, then 96 under Current GM points, and finally 19 under GM records. What is the meaning of these three different numbers in relation to each other?

There are 2 different "batches" listed under the top line with numbers different from the top line in each column. How do those numbers compare to each other and the top line set of numbers?

Batch 17 - 2009-04-2 - Sent - as above 113 113 5

What does this mean?

Batch means (or meant) the sending out of a points-generated reward. In other words, the RPGA rewards cards which were part of the previous rewards program.

Until after batch 19 you earned one reward for every 20 points.

So at batch 17 you had 113 which is 5 x 20 (with 13 remaining).
At batch 19 you had 165 minus the 100 you had been rewarded for at batch 17 is 65, which is 3 x 20 (with 5 remaining).

How things then get to 136 total with 96 current I have no idea - the various merges have made the rewards listing inaccurate, essentially, but as rewards are now triggered by having 5 points, you're listed as having 19 rewards because 19 x 5 = 95. Of course this is meaningless as you only receive one reward, whether you have 5 or 505 reward points.

In other words, so long as the sum of 'Current GM Reward Points' and 'Current WPN GM Reward Points' is at least 5, you will get a reward. The 'Total' columns and the 'GM Reward' and 'WPN GM Reward' columns are, now, irrelevant. Having said that, the fact that some people's points jumped suddenly during one of the database merges might cause a problem here, but it looks as if WotC will do everything the can to make sure that anyone who GMs five sessions in the qualifying period will get a reward.

Forgive the questions of the new guy, but how do you see the accumulated points total? I would love to be able to see that on one page to make sure I get my points recorded before the Ship tiles... well, ship.

Thanks.

The key is that you MUST go to http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/rewards/welcome and click the SIGN UP NOW link in the middle of the page, then go through the process first.

After you have done this the "My Rewards" link will be available to you on the right had side of the menu bar when you log into the DCI launchpad.

Thanks Durgine. My Rewards Program memberships were activated a long time ago - and I think it was automatic when passing the Herald level test back then - so I sometimes forget the steps needed in the current system!

Keep in mind that the current program only looks at whether you earned at least 5 points in the semiannual cycle. You only get one mailing, and we start counting again with the next cycle. So, if you earned 150 points in one cycle, you still get the same reward as the DM who earned 5.

However, the DM who earned 3 points (not enough for a reward) will have their 3 points carried over to the next cycle, but the DM who earned 5 will need to get another 5 in their next cycle to get the reward.

So does that mean that the 5 points will be deducted from the points you have and the remainder is rolled over?

Which would be a bad thing, IMO, for those who actually do a lot of DMing, since it penalizes you if you get a reward at all, even if you would be "ahead" for the next interval.

Or, to put it more plainly, what incentive would I have to run more than 5 games in the whole interval? It is already set to only generate one reward during the interval, so the only incentive I would have would be to "store up points" for a future time when I might wind up having trouble running games, for one reason or another.

Or, you know, to...play D&D.

I get to do that on Tuesdays. Except my work schedule changed, so I no longe have Tuesdays free for the foreseeable future.

I wound up running on Wednesdays, no one else stepped up.

I can't find a game on Fridays, my "open" day off...

And I run two Saturdays, get to play the two rounds (if they have that many!) at the local game day at the library on the (usually) 4th Saturday, and don't have a DM or gamers for the other Saturdays...

I would love to play.

Current active (played at least once) LFR PCs:
Boris, Dwarven Fighter, 3rd level
Maker, Warforged Artificer, 1st level
Kinevon, Dragonborn Paladin, 1st level
Lucan, Drow Rogue, 1st level
Terios, Minotaur Barbarian, 1st level

Boris got TPKed at 1st level, Maker didn't have enough healing to save the Rogue in his party, most of the rest have had non-fatal experiences in their games.

Eh.

I think the important thing to remember is that the DM Rewards program is sort of intended (in my opinion) as the "icing on the cake" - a little something extra to help reward those who already step up to make sure that so many others are having fun - AND to help entice those who are on the fence about DMing.

Part of why there's a limit on the amount of rewards received, as I understand it, is to help limit down on people "hoarding" rewards to sell on Ebay. These are meant to be something special - something extra for the people that earn them.

If a mailing was received for EVERY 5 points there are a lot of us who would easily see 5, even 10 mailings.

Does that mean there isn't some room for improvement? Nope.

If you have suggestions that help address these issues, I know I'd love to hear them, and I imagine Chris and the rest of the RPGA (as well as the WPN) would love to hear about it as well.

The first (and only) suggestion that comes to my mind would be some form of "tiers" of rewards. 5 points = "X" 10 points = "X" + "Y"

I still doubt that it would go beyond 10 points at this time, however.

Heya,

I just checked my Rewards page, as I was checking to see if/what outstanding mods I'd not reported (it seems I have one).

Somehow, I've gone from over 10 points to 4. This isn't the first fluctuation in reward points in the database I've run into. What gives?

I mean, it's clear from the history in "My Events" that I have more than 4 events since 1/1, but the total in "My Rewards" isn't reflecting this?

Any ideas? Was there a super-secret point purge in the recent past? Is this an attempt to get me to report that outstanding event - Hostage DM Points?

Just curious.

As far as I can tell, they keep messing around with how the rewards are displayed. Sometimes they show the WPN and private play rewards as separate columns . Sometimes they add them together as one big number. Sometimes one gets displayed and sometimes the other.

I'd just roll with it. The current display is meaningless until it settles down. They either get the system figured out or they don't.
