| #2WolfStar76Aug 05, 2008 12:03:43 | This thread is about what edition you thought was best. This thread would be much better in the General D&D threads, instead of in the RPGA section. Might I recommend the "General Discussion" forum under the main D&D section? |
| #3sirpatricshieldstrikAug 05, 2008 13:36:10 | Since this is the general discussion area for the Dungeons and Dragons Role-Playing Game Association and is a place to discuss the organization, ask your questions, and exchange ideas with other members of this world wide roleplayer's organization, I felt this was ideal. |

The RPGA only supports the most recent version of Dungeons and Dragons. This forum is for discussion of the RPGA in general, (rules, where to find games, policies, where to find documents, who's in charge, etc). |

Which is why this is a perfect place to ask the question,"which version do you think is the best"? It an exchange of Ideas. For example one could say 4e (the game we are playing now) is the best because etc.. etc.. or I wish there was a RPGA for 2e I like that one the best. See where I'm going. |

I hearwhat you're saying...but the fact is that 99+% of discussion on this RPGA forum is specifically about RPGA campaign play; regardless of that "exchange of ideas" phrase that's posted on these boards...general discussion about gaming philosophy simply doesn't happen much (if at all) here. So, don't be surprised if you don't get the discussion you're looking for on your topic. My personal advice: post this topic in the general D&D area of these boards, and you might get some response. And, just FYI, even if lots of people wished RPGA would support earlier editions...they won't. They're funded directly by WotC, which will only fund supporting the current edition of the game. |

It's an exchange of ideas, but there is also little discussion about thermodynamics here. ![]() Perhaps you were aiming toward something more specific, like, "which of these editions was best suited for play in the RPGA?" That is something that could stir up quite a bit of thought with respect to the nature of the organization, how it has changed over the years, how the gaming industry has changed, etc. David |

It opened the door for non-core supplements. 2e is best because it codified much of what we had independently and collectively already been doing through various house rules. It proved that the game was not static, and that revision was not only possible, but desirable. 3e is best because it removed the racism that 2e had continued in class selection, and opened the door for third-party support for the best damned game in the world. 3.5e is best because it proved that the designers could respond directly to customer feedback in revising the game through a semi-radical course correction. It also proved that the salvation of D&D via 3e was not a fluke -- D&D was here to stay. 4e is best because it proved that the game does not require complexity to be comprehensive. It removed the spoon so many of us had been used to feeding from, acknowledging that the game does not need a rule for every action. |

| #10koushiroAug 16, 2008 4:18:16 | What about those old D&D booklets way back in the day? The original TSR box where you had to write the numbers on your dice? That would have been pretty awesome. You could ask which edition did people enjoy the RPGA more in, since the RPGA has been around for almost as long as D&D has existed. |
