| #1eljeffexAug 29, 2008 12:18:24 | Hi, I'm interested in joining the RPGA and playing LFR. Luckily, I have friends and contacts that are running games and will be getting set up with my membership this weekend. However, I wanted to get an idea of how many games might be running in my area. On the RPGA Event finder, no matter what I put in, it only lists events that have already occurred. Today, for example, it lists 3 pages of events from August 28th and then goes backwards into 2007 and so on. It will NOT list events in the future. I have a friend who is a member and discovered this same problem. However, once he logged in with his ID, he was able to see events normally. So, what it looks like is that non-members can't see new events that are upcoming to their area. The big problem? You can't become a member without finding an event to attend to get your card. You can't see events without being a member. Some people might be lucky enough to find a local game store hosting an event, have friends that are already members, or attend a convention and join. Anyone trying to use the website to find a way to join seems to be in for nothing but frustration and the RPGA might be losing a lot of potential members this way. To quote Tech Sergeant Chen, "Just FYI." |

Neither browser had a problem pulling up my future events (as well as several others). Can you list what steps you've tried and in what browser(s)? That way when someone official reads this we'll have some basic troubleshooting done for them, as well as steps to recreate the problem. ![]() Bah, after logging in to post this, I somehow got rerouted to the Conventions forum. Brandenmuhl) and goes back to 6/5/86 (Dallas Fantasy Fair; Rembert Parker). If I change Event type to "Retail" and Status to "Future" with the same ZIP and distance, I get a blank. I think either people aren't registering ZIP codes or the system just isn't reading them correctly, because if I change from using ZIP to just using Texas, I do get a couple of future events in September, mostly in Austin, with one in Arlington nearby (easily within 60 miles of my ZIP). It looks like there isn't a problem, just an interface that defaults to showing past games combined with a lack of future games in my area. There just aren't that many games registered, yet. I do, however, know that a friend of mine that is a DM and he has a game he's running that shows up as a Home game on his list, but I can't get it to appear on mine no matter what I do. Is there a "private" tab that makes these games not appear on the general list. If so, then it really just boils down to me not searching correctly and there being only one game in the DFW metroplex in the near future. |

He's good people. ![]() If I change Event type to "Retail" and Status to "Future" with the same ZIP and distance, I get a blank. Might be that there's just a problem with the zip code computations. . . though why it would only affect "future" events and not past is well beyond me. Truly one for the webgnomes. Home games never show up on the public calendar. It's assumed that "home" games are private (the DM and a hand-picked group of friends) where as Retail and Convention games are public by default, allowing anyone to see (and try to join) them. ![]() |
| #6Magicstar1Aug 29, 2008 14:51:44 | The trouble probably is with the home games. Lots of my friends here in the Netherlands play home games and we have quite a nice group here. New people always find no events until we get them in the private mail system we have and hook them up. Try finding the one or two big conventions from the past and mail their organizer. If there is a lot of below radar local play they probably know and can hook you up. |
