| #1mshea_dupJan 18, 2009 17:38:14 | So last year at gencon, my wife and I signed up with new RPGA numbers for 4e. We gave the cards to the judges (which turned out to be a mistake since they had the activation codes on them). Now when I try to log in, I have no password and activation code. The web system says it cannot reset my password and since I have no activation code, I'm stuck. I'm convinced that my card got tossed in the trash and now all of my progress on my character is gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Unless you can really sweet-talk the DCI customer service people, your current number is probably effectively dead. And yes, the DM probably tossed the bit of paper. not sure why they took it in the first place. Now, the good news. The online tracking system is screwed up and unreliable for any number of reasons. Thus, everyone's 'official' character records are their paper ones, not the online tracker. So, as long as you have kept track of your play history you are good to go. If you can't sweet-talk customer service, I'd say get new DCI# cards at your local game store, start using those for your future tracking and just keep your current characters. |

We were all taken quite a bit by surprise of the change to the RPGA database (specifically, our database was merged with the DCI database). As of that merger older RPGA unused RPGA numbers became invalid - for the most part. At GenCon we were still handing out and using RPGA membership cards - these cards don't/didn't have "activation codes" on them. However, every membership card handed in at HQ was filed and sent back to WotC (and processed a couple months later). If it got to us at HQ I promise that it was NOT tossed (we sent back a couple index card boxes full of new registrations). Of course, that still doesn't help in your case, since the new login system wants you to "activate" your membership. Your best option is to contact Customer Service, and tell them what happened (You got a new RPGA membership card, not a DCI card) at GenCon - and you need help logging in/activating your account for the first time.). Give them your RPGA number(s), and they'll work with you to help you get logged in for the first time. You can contact Customer Service at http://wizards.custhelp.com . Your forum login should be the same login as the customer service site. |

I guess I should throw them away? Yes. The new system cannot add any new numbers which are less than ten digits. The old eight digit (or shorter) numbers work when padded to nine digits by adding a '1' to the front if the number had been activated prior to GenCon Indy 07. Unactivated numbers which are not ten-digits long cannot be used to create new RPGA/DCI memberships. Email dci@wizards.com* and they will send you a pack of new cards.
