They likely meant you should log into your account on the RPGA site, then click on "My Characters", and then click on the proper game type, and then make sure you have an entry for each of your characters.

The reason this is important is that the reporting system only allows a reporter to select up to the highest PC number you have created in the system. If, say, you play with your third PC, but only have one registered, the reporter could choose either to give the credit (XP, gold, story rewards) to PC 1 (not good) or to create a new PC (becomes PC #2, again, not good).

Thus, everyone should always log in and make any PCs they plan on using and keep track of which number is linked to which PC.

By default that option doesn't show up until one of the following:

A) Your first D&D game is reported

B) You request Customer Service add you to the RPGA D&D Player group.

The good news is - while it's STRONGLY encouraged that whenever possible you pre-register your characters before a game, the DM *does* have the option to add a new character to your profile for you.

This is less desirable if your session included more than one game, however, because the limitations of the new system would force multiple new characters to be created, when you only meant to play one character for all.

WolfStar, you continue to do a great job. Thanks!

Any way you can work with the power that be to get 'B' changed? Seems like it would be better to have the option available for all players... why place any disincentive to people getting interested in playing?

Thanks,

I don't know that *I* can do a whole lot, but there are two channels where it occurs to me that our opinions on items like this might be heard.

First and foremost, I'd recommend that anyone who'd like this "default" to be changed so that all DCI/WPN/RPGA accounts include D&D send in a note to customer service (http://wizards.custhelp.com).

A sample note should include something akin to the following:
"Dear WotC.

I've noticed that with the merger of the DCI and RPGA databases, new DCI/WPN members are no longer being created with the "My Characters" link that's a part of managing their (former) RPGA accounts.

I feel this is a disservice to new players - especially those who may be joining at RPGA events (especially as we no longer have RPGA specific membership cards). I would really appreciate it if you would consider adding the "RPGA D&D Player" group to new DCI members as a default option on their accounts, instead of making them wait for their first RPGA game to be reported as is currently the policy.

The biggest impact this change would have, is to allow players to pre-register their character(s) for RPGA games. This will help players feel more connected to their characters, and to the RPGA from the very onset. In some cases, where they might play more than one game during their first session (especially common at conventions, where a good number of new players joing) this would also eliminate the issue of multiple new character being created when only one should be made.

Thank you for your time.

Please note, I'm not a speechwriter, my grammar is mediocre, and I haven't spell checked that - so please feel free to use your own variant.

The other place I'd make similar requests would be in the DCI forum, here. Most likely in the Wizards Play Network forum. The VCL over there, Billbo, is a nice guy, and seems to have the ear of a few DCI/WPN insiders, so he might also be able to forward requests of this sort, and while he can't affet change anymore than I can, he might at least be able to get answers as to why things are being done as they are right now.

In fact, I'd be happy to put in a word with Billbo (I recruited him into the VCL program after all), if someone else wants to start a thread based on this idea.

Hello all,

How does one go about fixing session reporting errors? For instance, I played several sessions at a local CON - MACE 2008; the play history is for 5 Characters when I only played 2. Thanks.

Traditionally the Senior GM (the one who ordered and reported the event) needs to file an appeal requesting the changes.

I've heard that players can now file their own appeal, however - but have heard mixed reports of success using this approach.

Appeals can be filed from your RPGA Membership page.
