I know that it specifically mentions that the Forgotten Realms ones aren't except in LFR and it mentions that all material from Dragon magazine by the end of the issue's month is legal but wanted to know specifically on those backgrounds. |
| #2_Mithreinmaethor_Dec 29, 2008 8:26:54 | Are the "Scales of War" backgrounds from Dragon #366 legal for RPGA characters? Read the CCG v1.7 to find this answer. Perhaps around say the 1st paragraph on page 6 |
| #3KarmaInfernoDec 30, 2008 17:46:59 | There is a difference between "RPGA Legal" and "Living Forgotten Realms Legal". Under general RPGA rules, you can use those backgrounds - except if a campaign specifically says you cannot. Currently there is only one RPGA 4th edition campaign that is active , Living Forgotten Realms. The LFR addendum specifically states you can only use backgrounds from the FRPG. There may be other campaigns in the future that will allow the backgrounds from Dragons 366, but LFR does not. -karma |
| #4gc1ceoDec 31, 2008 15:41:34 | Alright, that explains that. Are the Dungeon Delves part of LFR? |
| #5WolfStar76Dec 31, 2008 15:45:08 | Alright, that explains that. No. The Delves are a separate entity. |
| #6gc1ceoDec 31, 2008 16:11:08 | Ergo, the Dungeon Delves are RPGA but not LFRP and thus a character made for Dungeon Delves can be RPGA legal without being LFRP legal? |
| #7kenobi65Dec 31, 2008 18:47:44 | Ergo, the Dungeon Delves are RPGA but not LFRP and thus a character made for Dungeon Delves can be RPGA legal without being LFRP legal? Correct. Living Forgotten Realms is an ongoing campaign. Dungeon Delves are one-shot adventures. When you look at the RPGA Character Creation Guide (CCG), there's a "General" section in the front, and then specific sections in the back for specific adventures or campaigns (such as Living Forgotten Realms). In creating a character for a Delve, you follow the "general" rules. In creating a character for LFR, you follow both the "general" and LFR-specific rules (keeping in mind that, if the two rules contradict each other, the campaign-specific rule is what you follow). Most noteworthy in this is that the Delves are frequently designed for higher-level PCs, and you would create a PC at the required level for that particular delve...while LFR PCs must *always* start at 1st level. Even if you create a Delve PC that would, theoretically, be legal to also play in LFR, you can't apply any character rewards that might come from a Delve to an LFR PC (in other words, your LFR PC can't gain XP or treasure from playing in a Delve). |
| #8WolfStar76Jan 01, 2009 0:03:01 | I'm contemplating sending a PM to Chris asking him to include a page for the Delves in the next CCG update. I wonder if that would help dispel some of the ongoing LFR / Delve / RPGA confusion? |
| #9Dragon9Jan 01, 2009 9:48:29 | Probably not. :P |
| #10KarmaInfernoJan 02, 2009 12:46:40 | It would help if we can get people to actually read the darn thing. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, though. I remember a few years ago running one of the RPGA HQ information booths at GenCon, and a question about where a particular event was taking place kept popping up. I made up a sign with one inch tall lettering stating plainly where that event was taking place. Still kept getting people asking where it was, despite the sign RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACE. -karma |
