It's a 4E test.

And, it's an open-book test, so "studying" shouldn't be a problem.

Also, you don't need to take the test to DM a game. You just need to take it to be a senior DM and order events. Anyoen can DM a game.

Granted, it's not required unless you are doing the actual event ordering, but it's not a horrible idea to take the test anyway.

If nothing else, it's a quick refresher on 4E stuff.

Any chance of sharing said cheat sheet so that other aspiring DMs (ahem) could take a quick look?

But that would break the DM Test code of not sharing questions/answers with others. :P

Fair enough, that makes sense. I am not out to breach any codes, but once I pas the test, I would love to get any condensed rule sheet so I can hone my skills. I will get back to you once I have passed the test

I recommend the 4e DM screen. Handy-Dandy.

The DM screen might be useful to some. The D&D Compendium is excellent tool for looking up rule questions for the most part, whether your testing or DM'ing.

Eagerly awaiting the master test myself, my guess is 2013.

There used to be a 3.5e Master level test, but the last rumour I heard was that there aren't really GM levels in the new system. Certainly I've given up emailing to ask them to correct things when the system bumps me back to Herald - it's done it twice now, and there doesn't seem to be any reason to bother them about it any more!

In fact, the levels in the WPN system are actually far more sensible and useful than the RPGA levels were, as the RPGA levels simply rewarded reading comprehension - with the Master test focusing far more on the Senior GM role at large conventions. While the plan was to introduce running requirements and interviews for even higher levels, those programmes were never launched, to my knowledge. Even though it might be flawed for those of us whose main WPN activity is the (relatively small scale, compared with Magic) organisation of roleplaying events, the WPN system does actually reward those people who are most active in running WPN events, which is logical!

Actually I think they should have a suplimental test given to people, players and/or DMs, that is pure rules intensive. It should have alot of what if senarios, essay questions, and even lab sessions. Once you complete it you get a .pdf file of a degree in "Rules Lawyer" and people can print it out and take it with them to the games, and they can charge for rules consultation inbetween turns. If a disagreement between a player happens between them and the DM on a ruling the "Rules Lawyer" could be an advocate in their clients case. This would evoke wrath of DM on the lawyer instead of the player, but the layer would be compensated by the client so all at the table would benefit.

yeah, it took me 4 tries to pass the Herald DM test....but in my defense i took it within 45 minutes of getting my core books and never playing any 4E (and i wound up skipping over 3.5 completely)

I was so very very proud when i DID pass the DM test that i laminated my DM DCI card.

Since then i have completely fallen in love with 4E, and while i think there are A LOT of things the RPGA can do differently to allow for more interaction and rewards for players, i log in here, every day, just to scope it out.
