| #1BigsOct 25, 2008 22:12:18 | I am new to reporting events and am filling out some of the "Session Tracking" sheets. I noticed in the Weekend in the Realms it states that if someone opts at the end of the section to take the extra gold that it is added to the total amount of each player? is that correct? I am going to give some examples to make sure I have this right. I have 6 players. So with a default reward of 75g and 5 people choose Healing Pots and one person takes the 50g then each person receives 125g? What if one person takes a pot and the rest of them take the extra 50g on top of the default 75, then each player will receive 325g? That doesn't seem right to me, but looking at the end of each session thats what it appears to read like. If someone would clarify this for me asap that way I can adjust it for them in the final part tomorrow. Much thanks in advance for your help. |

The "gold that everyone receives in 75". If I take extra gold, I get 50 PLUS (my share of) the gold that everyone receives. So I get 125, while someone who takes a bundle gets 75+their bundle. |

See that makes sense to me, and thats the way I would think it would work, but in the "Beneath Haunted Halls" I am running on p.7, p.18, and p.28 the same sentence is written each time. "If a player selects an option that gives their character more gold, add that to the gold ALL characters receive, and ensure you enter the total amount of gold gained (minus any expenditures) online." Am I just reading this statement wrong? |

It's written poorly. The gold that ALL characters receive is 75. If I take the more gold option, I get that in addition to the gold that all characters receive. It's a little (very little) more relevant in standard mods where the amount of gold everyone receives varies depending on if its the high or low version of the mod. But no, me taking more gold DOES NOT snowball everyone else's gold. I get 125, and Bob gets 75 plus a shiny sword of dooooooom. |

You are being told to add the amount of extra gold (50gp, here) to the normal amount (75gp, here) in order to determine the amount of gold received by a character getting extra gold. "the amount of gold all characters receive", then, is telling you the number to use when determining the amount of gold a particular character receives, not telling you to do anything about the characters who didn't take extra gold. It makes sense, if you imagine that there are brackets around "the gold all characters receive" and see all those words as a single entity, rather than emphasising the word "all". As everyone has commented, this is by far the more sensible interpretation, and it is a perfectly plausible interpretation given the wording, so we can interpret it in the sensible manner despite potential ambiguity. |

Knowing why it is written that way helps my arguments with them, as well as making sure I am doing the right thing for the players. The way I was reading it was going against everything I thought was right, and my little brain was on overload. Thanks again for both your helps! :D |

I recall that in the FRCG adventure there was extra gold that we found by searching a certain object -- everyone gets some bonus gold for that, it doesn't only go to the one player that thought to search. Or am I misunderstanding too? |
