How do I download mods?

I'm running an adventure for the local RPGA chapter, and I can't for the life of me figure out where to find/download the mod that I need for Monday.  I took the DnD Judge test, and I've run events before (downloaded by buddies) so I'm an active LFR DM.  Where are the modules?

First of all, if you've never ordered and reported an event before, consider asking more experienced members of the 'RPGA chapter' to do it for you, and to give you the adventure.

If you need to do it, you need to create an event.

Go to 'Event Sanctioning' on the right hand side of webapp.wizards.com/personal.aspx

Click "Dungeons and Dragons". If it is a recent adventure which is only available for Public Play, click "Dungeons and Dragons: Public Play". Complete the forms which follow. You will not be able to create a Public Play event unless you've previously given the details of a public venue to WotC.

Note that after you've ticked the box by the adventure you're running in the adventure list, you need to click 'Add/Remove Selected Adventures' at the bottom, let the page reload, then click 'Next'. Click 'Submit' on the next screen.

Then click 'My Events' on the right-hand side. Click the same icon you clicked before (D&D or Public Play) and click Search. Find the event you just created, and click on the link. Scroll to the bottom and there should be a link to a .zip file for the adventure, which you can download.

Once you've run the game you'll need to report it, which you can do from the same web interface. Come back and ask about that if you get stuck (you'll need everyone's RPGA/DCI numbers, but that's all).

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask more questions if anything is still unclear or doesn't work.

Thing is, the 'event' is already created. Do I need to create a new one?

If think he means create the event under your account for the game you're running. The event running at your club is not the "event" in the WotC database that you use to order the game.

I made a picture guide for ordering and reporting events a while back.

If you need to download the mods for an event that you did not order, well, you have a couple options:
  • Ask the person that ordered the event to log in, and then click on "My Events" on the right - you can select the event in question from that menu and then download each mod as a .zip

  • Order a private event under your own login, download the mods, then cancel the event.

I do not recommend ordering an extra public event, as this may (and this is merely speculation) mess with the store's standing as a Premiere location.  Canceled events look bad on the records for public play; private play is largely unaffected but has a slimmer selection of adventures.

Hope this helps!

As I understand it, WotC knows when multiple people run events at the store so that shouldn't be an issue. But Organizers also get credit when they "run" events based on number of tables run. Some organizers care, some don't.

If the event was created in the WotC Event Sanctioning system by someone else, that person is the event organiser and it's his or her responsibility to get you the adventure. Ask them for it.

If the other event organiser didn't order the adventure you're planning to run, you'll need to run two formal events side-by-side (or try to convince a WPN rep to add an adventure to the event manually, which is probably not worth anyone's time). Create an event which has your adventure attached to it. If you need it to be public play and you don't have the venue already authorised, it will be far quicker to ask the original event organiser to create a second event with your adventure and send you the adventure pdf.

If by 'event' you mean something different from 'entry in WotC's list of sanctioned WPN events then you'll need to follow the instructions in this thread.

Hope that all helps! Have fun (and note that everyone realises this is something of a complicated process and there are plans to change it in the near future)
