Wow. Can someone please write a how-to as to the correct procedure for creating and event, downloading an adventure, and reporting play events and sticky it up here?

Sanctioning an event seems pretty straightforward...until you realize none of the events show up when you are done.

Downloading the events seems...well...impossible, since there's no obvious link to it and everyone I've seen post said there should be links under "My Events"...but there isn't...

Reporting events should not be too difficult, yet I see the RPGA events I played at Origins have been marked as 'Invalidated', so obviously someone screwed something up somewhere.

Would someone at the RPGA please consider putting together a quick "how-to" on the new web site and either post it off the main page at rpga.com once you log in or (and?) consider sending an email blast to registered RPGA judges to make sure everyone knows the proper procedures? The "Help" option when you log into RPGA does not give you anything useful in this regard.

Thanks,

The biggest thing to point out is something that a lot of judges are missing:

Once you click on "My Events", ** make sure you select "Dungeons & Dragons" ** !

Otherwise it defaults to Magic: The Gathering and you won't see your events. When the new screen opens you can simply select the appropriate event from the list on-screen and then click on the adventure you wish to download/open.

Good luck! (you never know who may have a walk-through available, but I'll see what I can put together)

As to 'Invalidated', my best-guess is that the rules the DCI system was enforcing on the imported data said that it was inappropriate for a 'Tournament Organiser' (i.e. Senior GM) to play in an event he or she created. This is not in line with RPGA rules (for Game Days, Retail events and Conventions, at least) so while those events were perfectly valid under RPGA rules, the system hadn't been told not to apply the DCI rule it applies to every other type of event, and so marked those as Invalidated.

I have heard from Ian Richards that the system now knows not to apply that rule to RPGA events, but that the database people are still working on event histories.

Given the paper-based records for LFR (and, even if unofficial, the paper-based records for Xen'drik Expeditions) while this causes problems for those campaigns - and for everyone's reward points - it's not the most serious problem the new system has experienced!

Clearly there are still teething problems, and the system takes a while to get used to but it sounds like you've got it reasonably worked out.

However it's odd that you can seem to see past events you've participated in, but not see future ones you have set up in order to download the scenarios. Once you've set up an event, it should be in the My Events listing, in date order. You should then be able to click the sanctioning code (which has a new format), scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the link to the scenario .zips next to the names of the scenarios you've chosen for your event. If that doesn't work, let us know why (some of us are collecting bugs and trying to make sure the RPGA people know about them) and try logging off and logging back in to see if that triggers anything.
