Is there a way to search for a player by name?

I have a player who claims to have an old RPGA number and has it memorized, but the number nor the number with the added "10" to the front of it works. Can I search for the player using his name to find out what his number is so I can report his play? If not, should I just issue him a new card/number? Thanks!

try using "21..."

Or if the number is really old, like a 6 digit number, I think you have to try adding "1000" i.e. - add a 1 and then a number of 0s so that the total length of the number is 10 digits.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way for you to search for his number.

If he wants to keep using his old number, and you aren't able to get the system to recognize his old number, I suspect that he's going to need to contact Customer Service for help.

Version 3 of the DCI Tournament Reporter can read the membership database. You can download them from your members' area (click the 'downloads' link).

You can then follow the instructions to download and install the database file, and create a tournament (you don't need to actually be running one, or do any uploading). The add player screen will let you search for people by name and (I think) location.

The database appears to have last been updated in February, and the new version works differently - and might complain a bit more about dummy tournaments as it seems to connect to Wizards' servers more often, but for now the older version should work.

THIS.

And there's work being done, internal to WotC, to add RPGA Support into the WER (Wizards Event Reporter aka DCIR4).

I've just experimented with the Wizards Event Reporter, the new version of the software, and I think it's easier than the old system - plus I think it connects to the 'live' database so new players and updated data is accessible more quickly.

To get it to work, do the following:

1) Log into the Wizards members' area (nb: this isn't working for me this afternoon but I'm sure it'll be back soon)
2) Click 'Downloads' on the right-hand menu, or go to webapp.wizards.com/download.aspx directly
3) Download the Wizards Event Reporter and install it
4) Once you've run it for the first time and told it your username and password, click 'Create Tournament' (you can turn off all of the tutorials unless you want to learn how to use it to report Magic/DDM tournaments)
5) Give your tournament a name. You're never going to upload anything so 'Dummy tournament' is as good as anything else! You can leave the other options as they are.
6) Click the green Create Tournament button. You do not want to sanction it.
7) Click the 'Players' tab. (Again, you can turn off the help tip pop-up)
8) Click 'Find Player'
9) If necessary, change the 'Country' - you can only search within a single country.
10) Type a last name into the 'Last' box and click "Search". The 'First' box is unhelpful as you have to get an exact match. Searching for 'Pete' or 'P' and my lastname wouldn't find anything as I'm in the system as 'Peter' You can use the 'Region' drop-down or 'City' boxes to narrow the search, but again this relies on the player having entered the information
11) The results give DCI #, First Name, Last Name, Country, Region (if entered), City (if entered).
12) Repeat the search for additional players using the boxes at the top of the results
12) Click 'Cancel' and close the program when you've found the players you wanted.
