Hi all,

I have a DCI Number that I was given about 6 months ago when I attended a DDM event and signed up. Is this the number I need or do I need to also sign up for a RPGA number?

I would like to run LFR adventures for our Sunday night group. One of them will have a DCI Number like myself since he went to a DDM pre-release as well.

Can someone reply with a bullet post/numbered post of what our group needs to do so that we can all be members and have our Sunday night game recorded etc. We have been getting together to play for 25 years but have never joined the RPGA thought we should finally give it a try.

Thanks.

One of my players just had WPN merge his DCI and RPGA numbers. I just entered an event with his 4-digit DCI number and didn't have any problems, so I'd say, yes, they can use their DCI number.

So, to run an LFR event you'll need the following:
 • An RPGA/DCI number for each person involved.
 • A Herald-Level RPGA certified GM to order/sanction the event.0
 • Four to Six players.
 • A copy of the LFR module
 • A place to play
 • Characters (check the LFR Character Creation notes, here)

That's a nice concise list, Wolfstar. Does anyone know if a DCI number is easier to get than an RPGA number? If so, it might be the best thing to happen for aspiring RPGA players since the D20.

I think they both have the same basic structure. IE - show up at an event and play = instant membership.

If the RPGA isn't active in someone's are, but DCI is (Magic, D&D minis, Axis and Allies) then it might be easier.

Someone the other day said something that implies in the future cards will be co-branded with both RPGA and DCI logos, now that they're the same program.

So, soon we may not have to worry about it.

In my experience DCI cards are slightly easier to come by, simply because of programs like Friday Night Magic. I had to go out of my way to find an RPGA event--I managed to join a couple of weeks before the merge and now I've got two identities in the system. If your area doesn't have regular public RPGA events, at any rate, getting a DCI card should be the easier avenue, as you should be able to go to your FLGS provided they run Friday Night Magic and get a card. If you're not sure, I'm pretty sure there's a list of retailers who participate in FNM somewhere.

I noticed you are getting into the RPGA and are already a DCI member. I don't have a DCI membership. How is it possible to get into the RPGA? Is it possible to do from the RPGA web site or do I have to sign up at a con or gaming shop?

Thanks much.

There's an RPGA FAQ listing about this very topic at the top of this forum. Give it a read as it may answer many of your questions.

As for getting a membership:

2) How do I become a member?
Becoming a member is as easy as finding an RPGA session near you, or at a convention, and sitting down to play. You'll be handed a membership card when you sit down, and just like that, you're one of us.

If you're having a hard time finding games near you, please try checking our event calendar.

Nothing near you, but you still want to join and possibly run events yourself? We can help you out there too. Just send an e-mail to dci@wizards.com and let them know you want to join the RPGA, but need a membership card to do so. Give them your name and address, and a card will be dropped in the mail to you.

Thanks for the info. I don't know how I missed that. I read right through it but I think my mind is getting a little rusty.

It can be quite a bit to take in at first. Give your brain a good soak in a few D&D modules and you'll be right as rain after your first crit.
