| #1Fundin_StrongarmJul 25, 2008 11:46:34 | I'm pretty new to RPGA events, having played a couple times at D&DXP2008 with the pre-gen 4ed characters. I'm signed up for 6 of the LFR events at GenCon with my wife and I just want to make sure we do everything correctly. We seem to be able to make up our own characters using method 1 or 2, which I understand. What I'm a little fuzzy on is whether we use the same characters through all the events and whether we can level up. (I understand we can probably bring 6 brand new characters -- one for each session -- but we'd rather play just one each.) Does anyone have advice on what characters to make? What if the 6 people all make defenders? Is that a problem I need to worry about, for example? Thanks for any help. |

You can also play different characters in any or all of the events, if you wish. The best advice I can give you on characters to make is this: make the characters you want to play. You will get a variety of advice on putting together tables at public events where you don't know who you will end up playing with. You will get all kinds of extremes, from people who refuse to play at all if the party is not balanced, to those who actually enjoy the challenge and roleplaying potential of an all defender party. The marshall of the event (the person who helps put the tables together with the DMs) should facilitate putting together tables, and most players are extremely reasonable, although you are always going to find "interesting" people who can make marshalling a challenge. Since it sounds like you are coming as a duo, you can try to coordinate a good "foundation" for a table. Perhaps one of you play a striker melee rogue and the other a defender to provide flanking. Or some other combination that would at least work well together, to ensure you didn't have that 6 defender table. On a side note, one of the most fun tables I ever played was an all-bard table in 3e. And so far the LFR adventures I have run or watched have gone well despire the party being "unbalanced." I hope that helps, and feel free to ask anything you need to know! Shawn LFR Global Admin |

The exact numbers might change depending on if you gain any particular items, but pre-levelled character sheets can really help you level in the 10 minutes between slots. :P |

Given that you'll have literally dozens, if not hundreds, of players marshalling to play to play the same module, it shouldn't be a problem to muster a balanced table. Also, I second the advice of knowing ahead of time what you're going to do when you level up; you won't have much time to make decisions in between slots. |
